star this property answer text <p>Following a machinery of government change in the early 1970s, Home Office files relating to children’s home inspections were transferred to the Department for Health and Social Security. There are 49 files with ‘children’s home’ and ‘London’ in the catalogue description dating from 1931 onwards that are held at The National Archives. Details of the files, including whether they are closed, can be found through a search of The National Archives catalogue. Most are closed for 75 years from the date they went out of active use as they contain sensitive personal information where release would distress or endanger an individual who was a minor at the time the file was in use.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>An individual naturalising as a British citizen is required to have been lawfully resident in the UK for a minimum of five years, with the last year of residence free of time restrictions, or three years if the spouse of a British citizen.</p><p>Every country within the EU has the right to decide its own citizenship laws, but we would object if another Member State operated its processes in a way that could lead to abuse of free movement rights. The Government is clear that EU citizens who benefit from the right to free movement must adhere to the responsibilities this brings with it. The Government does not tolerate the abuse of free movement rights and is working at a domestic level and with other member states to tackle such abuse.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government reformed the basis for family migration to the UK in July 2012, to prevent burdens on the taxpayer, promote integration and tackle abuse. The non-European Economic Area national spouse or partner of a British citizen can now join or remain with their sponsor here if they meet the relevant requirements of Appendix FM to the Immigration Rules. These include a financial requirement which generally means the sponsor must meet a minimum income threshold of £18,600 a year, and a requirement that the applicant can speak basic English.</p><p>The Appendix FM to the Immigration Rules is attached to my reply.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Home Office offers assistance to failed asylum seekers who wish to return to their country of origin, including help with flights, travel documentation and financial assistance where necessary. Voluntary departures are designed to achieve a dignified return for those individuals with the most complex needs who wish to arrange their own return from the UK. This assistance is available throughout the UK including Northern Ireland and we do not target particular areas or groups.</p> more like this
