We have made it clear to Turkey that we expect the government to undertake any legal processes or actions against opposition parties, MPs, party officials and elected mayors, as well as human rights defenders and journalists, fairly, transparently and with full respect for the rule of law. Our Embassy meets regularly with the HDP leadership, as it does with other opposition parties, to discuss their concerns, including the arrest of HDP MPs. We will continue to engage closely with Turkey to encourage the full protection of fundamental rights of all peoples, regardless of their legitimate political affiliations, particularly in the areas of freedom of expression and assembly, press freedom and the treatment of detainees. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 31/03/2021 answer text <p>The UK is deeply concerned by the recently reported rearrests of Joanna Mamombe MP, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova. We also understand that Ms Mamombe and Ms Chimbiri's applications for bail have been denied. When the Minister for Africa wrote to late Foreign Minister Moyo on 12 August 2020, following a telephone call with him on 8 June 2020, he raised specific human rights concerns, including the treatment of Ms Mamombe, Ms Chimbiri, and Ms Marowa. Our Ambassador in Harare reinforced these messages when she met representatives of the Government of Zimbabwe on 24 November 2020. On 5 February, the Minister for Africa tweeted urging authorities to focus on investigating the women's claims.</p><p>The UK will continue to monitor developments in the case of Ms Mamombe, Ms Chimbiri, and Ms Marova closely and continue to call on the Government of Zimbabwe to uphold the rule of law. This includes respecting the Zimbabwean Constitution which clearly prohibits enforced disappearances, cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment. After over seven long years of conflict, a negotiated political settlement is the only way to bring long-term stability to Yemen and end the humanitarian suffering. The UK will continue to use its diplomatic relations and role as penholder on Yemen in the UN Security Council to support efforts towards political dialogue and peace. The UK continues to encourage the conflict parties to engage constructively with UN-led peace efforts. The UK advocated strongly for the passing of the Yazidi Survivors' Law in March 2021 and the establishment of the Directorate of Yazidi Affairs. The Directorate is responsible for searching for survivors and supporting judicial and investigative bodies on holding perpetrators to account. In parallel, we have also provided £2 million to the UN Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Daesh (UNITAD). The UK joined likeminded partners in committing to support Yazidis displaced or abducted by Daesh in a Joint alliance statement issued in October 2021. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/10/2022 answer text <p>On 1 September 2022, we announced new investment of up to £24 million in the period 2022 to 2025 to support women in or at risk of contact with the criminal justice system: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/news/millions-invested-to-support-female-offenders" target="_blank">Millions invested to support female offenders - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)</a>. This includes up to £12 million available to pay the core costs of women’s community sector organisations, reflecting historic demand in the sector for running costs and overheads, which are not always covered through wider local and national funding streams. Core costs funding will be allocated to the twelve probation regions in England and Wales in proportion to women’s community caseload in each region.</p><p>In addition, up to £8.4 million is available to invest in new services and interventions.</p><p>The continued existence and viability of the women’s community sector is vital to support the delivery of the main aims of the Government’s Female Offender Strategy, particularly fewer women entering the criminal justice system and fewer women in custody, especially on short-term sentences, and a greater proportion of women managed in the community successfully.</p><p>New accommodation that is decent, safe and secure and supports the modernisation of the prison estate is under development to improve custodial conditions for women. She acknowledged that the scale of the challenge she set the department was significant and that change on this scale takes time.</p><p>Since then, we have made further progress in delivering against Wendy Williams’ recommendations, including:</p><ul><li>In October 2022, the Home Office established the Office for the Independent Examiner of Complaints, and Moiram Ali was appointed as the Independent Examiner, subsequent to a public appointment recruitment process.</li><li>The Home Office has held over 200 engagement and outreach events across the country and the Windrush Help Teams have attended over 120 one-to-one surgeries to help people apply for documentation.</li><li>As of the end of October 2022, the Home Office had paid out or offered £59.58m in compensation to Windrush victims.
