star this property answer text
There is no precedent for a non-EU Member State to operate the European Arrest Warrant. It will be for Member States to determine how they implement their rights and obligations under the Withdrawal Agreement in the context of their domestic law. It would not be appropriate for the UK government to speculate publicly about individual Member States’ intentions in this regard.

After the entry into force of the European Arrest Warrant, all Member States of the European Union have remained parties to the European Convention on Extradition and continue to operate it with other Council of Europe members who are not Member States of the EU.
more like this

The text specifically reflects that the UK and EU have agreed extradition as a priority area for our future cooperation.

It will be for Member States to determine how they implement their rights and obligations under the Withdrawal Agreement or, in a no deal scenario, how they operate the 1957 European Convention on Extradition.
more like this

star this property answer text
The Common Travel Area (CTA) is an existing special travel area which facilitates the long-standing principle of free movement for British and Irish nationals and the enjoyment of reciprocal rights enjoyed in the UK and Ireland.

The CTA arrangements mean there are no routine immigration controls on journeys from Ireland to the UK, including over the land border. The Government is committed to maintaining these arrangements with Ireland after the UK leaves the EU, protecting the ability to move freely between Ireland and the UK. The December Joint Report includes recognition from the EU that the CTA with Ireland is protected after the UK has left the EU. As will all the commitments made in the December Joint Report we are determined to ensure that this is turned into legally binding text in the Withdrawal Agreement. Maintaining these arrangements also means the protection of Irish citizens’ rights to enter and remain in the UK.

Immigration control is not, and never has been, solely about the ability to prevent and control entry at the UK’s physical border. There is a high level of collaboration between the UK and Ireland on border security, with a joint programme of work focused on strengthening the external border of the CTA.
