These latest attacks build on a pattern of destabilising Iranian behaviour and pose a serious danger to peace and stability in the region.</p><p> </p><p>The UK remains in close coordination with international partners to find diplomatic solutions to de-escalate tensions. Our Ambassador to Iran sought and was granted a meeting with the Iranian government on 15 June, where they discussed developments in the region and a range of other topics.</p><p> </p><p>We have long made clear to Iran our concern about their destabilising regional activity, particularly the proliferation of ballistic missiles and support to non-state groups, in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and elsewhere. In targeting civilian shipping, international norms have been violated. It is essential that tankers and crews are able to pass through international waters safely. We call on Iran urgently to cease all forms of destabilising activity.</p><p> </p><p>On 22-23 June, I met with senior Iranian Government representatives. I held open, frank and constructive conversations with the Iranian authorities. However, as set out in the Government’s White Paper on the future skills-based immigration system published on 19 December 2018, individuals will use online services to demonstrate their immigration status to employers, landlords and other service providers. These online services will enable individuals to view an online record of their immigration status held by the Home Office, and to share it with others, securely and in real time. Online services are being rolled out now to those who hold a biometric residence document, and those who apply to the EU Settlement Scheme.</p><p>A decision on an individual’s immigration status is determined by suitably trained Home Office staff. To ensure that applications for leave to remain and enter are processed as efficiently as possible, UK Visas and Immigration digitally streams applications to the relevant team. Streaming does not determine the outcome of an application; rather it ensures appropriate checks are made against requirements of the Immigration Rules by suitably-trained decision makers. The streaming system drives efficiency by ensuring decision makers have the relevant applications as quickly as possible. It is regularly updated to reflect any changes in policy. We are committed to giving police the resources, tools and powers they need to tackle the scourge of crime.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">The Home Office does not hold figures for the number of police officer vacancies advertised prior to 23 July 2019.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) had previously announced plans to recruit 3000 additional officers in 2019/20. The recruitment of 20,000 officers announced by the Government is in addition to these numbers already announced by PCCs.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The Prime Minister and Home Secretary have announced the recruitment of 20,000 extra officers over the next three years. This demonstrates our commitment to support the police and give them extra resource to protect the public and keep us all safe. </ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The allocation of officers across England and Wales is yet to be confirmed. We are working closely with police leaders to put in place the plans and systems to deliver on our commitment. However, it is likely to take longer in the following instances:</p><ul><li>Further information is required from an applicant;</li><li>If the applicant is applying as a minor and or the application is not linked to an adult;</li><li>If the applicant has submitted a paper application;</li><li>If the applicant has a relevant criminal record;</li><li>If the applicant is a non-EEA or non-Swiss citizen and are applying based on a relationship not relied on in a previous application to the Home Office.</li></ul><p>Overall, the total number of applications that have been concluded, as of 30 September 2019, was more than 1.5 million (1,524,500).
