star this property answer text <p>Public Health England (PHE) and the Local Government Association jointly published ‘Health and Wellbeing in Rural Areas’ in March 2017, which describes the inequality experienced by some rural communities; gives a steer for local authorities on issues to consider in meeting the needs of rural communities and provides examples of case studies of how local areas are addressing this. The report is available to view at the following link:</p><p> </p><p><a href="https://www.local.gov.uk/health-and-wellbeing-rural-areas" target="_blank">https://www.local.gov.uk/health-and-wellbeing-rural-areas</a></p><p> </p><p>Last October, the Government published England’s first Loneliness Strategy which lays the foundation for people to build better and more meaningful connections. The practical measures to reduce loneliness set out in the strategy can also help to address social exclusion across the country.</p><p> </p><p>The Department welcomed the opportunity to draw on its own policies and programmes and its arm’s length bodies, including on primary care, public health, carers, mental health, social care and technology and digital support to inform the Loneliness Strategy, and remains committed to working alongside businesses, healthcare professionals, charities, community groups and local authorities to have a real and lasting impact on loneliness.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The Government recognises the valuable contribution horseracing makes to rural economies across Britain. A recent economic impact study commissioned by Scottish Racing found that the Scottish horseracing industry generated £302 million in revenues in 2016, sustains 3,430 jobs, and generates £30m of tax revenues per annum. Further detail is provided in Scottish Racing’s 2016 Annual Review: http://www.scottishracing.co.uk/annual-review/</p><p>In April 2017 the Government implemented reforms to the Horserace Betting Levy, which extended the Levy to offshore online operators. star this property answer text <p>Official figures show that total international and rest of the UK exports in 2016 (excluding oil and gas) were estimated at £75.6 billion. Exports to the rest of the UK accounted for 61 per cent of this total (or £45.8bn) and international exports accounted for 39 per cent (or £29.8bn).</p><p> </p><p>Both the European Union (EU) and the individual EU countries are members of the WTO. The EU has bilateral trade and investment relationships with a great number of countries, including Scotland’s top international export destination valued at £4.8bn, the USA.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The business case for High Speed 2 assumes two HS2 trains per hour between London and Scotland for 16 hours per day, providing a total of 34,000 seats between London-Glasgow and London-Edinburgh on HS2 (splitting or joining at Carstairs) in both directions each day.</p><p> </p><p>These trains will use the West Coast Main Line and HS2 Western Leg, rather than the East Coast Main Line. There will, however, be a connection onto the East Coast Main Line at Church Fenton allowing HS2 trains to connect London and the West Midlands to York and the North East. Final decisions on the train service will be made closer to the opening of HS2.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK Government is committed to deliver a transformational and economic Deal for the Borderlands area that will focus on issues such as infrastructure, skills and energy. I will drive this work forward to see an agreed deal in the coming months.</p><p> </p><p>I and my officials have had a number of meetings with local representatives and local authorities which led to the partners submitting their proposals on 29 September.</p><p> </p><p>My officials are now discussing these proposals with other UK Government Departments and the Scottish Government and I plan to hold discussions with Scottish Government Ministers soon to agree how both Governments can best take this work forward.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this
