That is why we have made sure that swimming and water safety is compulsory in the national curriculum for PE at primary levels (key stages 1 and 2). The curriculum sets out the expectation that all pupils should be taught to:</p><ul><li>swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres;</li><li>use a range of strokes effectively; and</li><li>perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.</li></ul><p>The department does not collect data on the number of swimming lessons provided by individual schools. Schools have the freedom to choose the swimming programme to meet the needs of their pupils.</p><p>All primary schools must report annually on the percentage of pupils who can meet the national curriculum requirements for swimming by the end of KS2 as a condition of the primary PE and sport premium funding. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/01/2019 answer text <p>The department has undertaken no assessment because policy on paid leave for self-employed people is a policy responsibility of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.</p><p>Where adopters do not qualify for family related statutory pay because they are self-employed, local authorities may make a payment equivalent to Maternity Allowance. This is at the discretion of the local authority and is means-tested.</p><p> </p><p>The latest figures on adoptions were published in a statistical release ‘Children looked after in England including adoption: 2017 to 2018’ on 15 November 2018. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/04/2019 answer text <p>The government supports the provision of nutritious food in schools, which ensures pupils are well nourished, develop healthy eating habits and can concentrate and learn. Under the benefits based criteria, around 1.1 million of the most disadvantaged children are eligible for and claiming free school meals – saving families around £400 per year. Benefits based free meals were extended to disadvantaged further education students in September 2014. A further 1.5 million infants receive a free nutritious meal under the Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme. We are also investing up to £26 million to the National Schools Breakfast Programme. Member for Cardiff Central to the answer I gave on 2 April 2019 to Question <a href="https://www.parliament.uk/business/publications/written-questions-answers-statements/written-question/Commons/2019-03-28/238408/" target="_blank">238408</a>.</p><p>This year we are more than quadrupling investment in our holiday activities and food programme to £9.1 million. We estimate that around 50,000 children will benefit from being offered high quality free holiday provision this summer. The Department’s consultation document, ‘Schools that work for everyone’<em>,</em> set out proposals to replace the 50% cap on faith admissions in faith free schools with new safeguards to support inclusivity and integration. These are aimed at building on existing inclusivity requirements and those to promote fundamental British values to help ensure children and young people are prepared for life in modern Britain.
