unstar this property answer text We understand that there are members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) on hunger strike in 13 prisons across the country. Whilst the United Kingdom cannot interfere in Colombia’s judicial process, we have in the past raised concerns regarding due process and prison conditions with the Government of Colombia – particularly in relation to imprisoned trade unionists. That said we do not currently intend to make specific representations to the Colombian government about the current hunger strike by members of the FARC. more like this

unstar this property answer text <table><tbody><tr><td><p>On 7 February 2019, the Government published the Post Implementation Review (PIR) of Part 1 of The Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 which included an assessment of the impact of the £37,500 disposable income threshold introduced at the Crown Court: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/post-implementation-review-of-part-1-of-laspo" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/post-implementation-review-of-part-1-of-laspo</a></p></td></tr></tbody></table><p>Alongside the PIR, the Government also published its Legal Support Action Plan in which it announced a comprehensive review of the wider legal aid eligibility regime; this will include the Crown Court thresholds. The review is expected to conclude by Summer 2020 after which we will publish a full consultation paper setting out our future policy proposals in this area. We will seek to implement any final recommendations as soon as practicable following public consultation.</p>

We are committed to defending free speech on campus to avoid a culture of censorship which risks leading to those outcomes to which the question refers. Comprehensive guidance on Freedom of Speech for the higher education sector is due to be published by the end of the year.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>​The arrest of Seauxis Hernandez (Jesus Santrich) for allegations of drug smuggling since the signing of the Peace Agreement is a significant challenge for all those working to uphold the aims of the Havana accords. The British Ambassador in Bogota has discussed the case with the Attorney General, and the Embassy are monitoring the situation closely. In her statement on 19 April, Karen Pierce the UK Permanent Representative to the UN Security Council made clear the importance of handling it in accordance with the Peace Agreement. I understand that Mr Hernandez’s case will be reviewed by the Special Jurisdiction for Peace. I welcome the joint message of commitment to due process made by President Santos and FARC Party leader Rodrigo Londono following their meeting on 11 April.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>​The United Kingdom is a strong supporter of the ICC and believes it is important that fugitives from international justice do not enjoy impunity. If an individual who is wanted by the ICC enters the United Kingdom, we have a legal obligation to arrest and surrender that individual in accordance with the International Criminal Court Act 2001. All State Parties to the ICC have a similar legal obligation to arrest and surrender an ICC-indicted individual if they enter their territory. The United Kingdom regularly raises the importance of cooperation between the ICC and States Parties to the Rome Statute (most recently on 12 December at the UN Security Council). We will continue to raise our concerns with non-cooperating governments, including through the European Union.</p> more like this
