The training given is approved by the Ministry of Justice and equates to that undertaken by new-entrant prison officers in the public sector. Candidates who do not complete the course satisfactorily will not be employed.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Art, Design and Media Studies were taught at HMP Wormwood Scrubs as part of the learning offer under the Offenders’ Learning and Skills Service (OLASS) arrangements, although there was no actual art, design and media department at the prison.</p><p> </p><p>Following an Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) report, and a curriculum review under the OLASS arrangements, and after consultation with Ofsted, the Skills Funding Agency and A4e (the then OLASS provider), a local decision was taken in November 2014 to withdraw provision for Art, Design and Media Studies at the prison and to focus delivery more on literacy and numeracy. The subjects were withdrawn in January 2015.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Starring up is the term used to define the process whereby young people under the age of 18 can be moved into the young adult estate prior to their eighteenth birthday. The starring up process can be used for a range of reasons, but past usage has mainly been in relating to the management of disruptive or violent behaviour or transfers to Mother and Baby Units.</p><br /><p>In practice, the starring up process is rarely used and then only in exceptional circumstances.</p><br /><p>No young person has been starred-up into the young adult estate since January 2014.
