star this property answer text <p>The National Air Traffic Services (NATS) undertook initial fast time simulation work for the Airports Commission to assess the possible implications arising from the indicative airspace design for a third runway at Heathrow Airport. This work took account of the likely air traffic demands of airports across the South East, including RAF Northolt.</p><p> </p><p>Airspace design proposals for a third runway at Heathrow Airport will need to follow the Civil Aviation Authority’s airspace change process. This is a thorough process requiring extensive consultation with communities and other stakeholders, including the military and airports that may be affected by the proposal.</p><p> </p><p>The decision to upgrade RAF Northolt’s runway in 2018 is a policy and operational matter for the Secretary of State for Defence.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Department for Transport, in conjunction with Transport for London and Network Rail, has undertaken a feasibility study to review whether there was a case to extend the existing Crossrail 1 (Elizabeth line) route north to Tring via a link to the West Coast Main Line. It was thought that the link may provide improved journey times and connectivity opportunities along the route. However, the business case found little journey time saving compared to passengers using current routes. Consequently, no further steps will be taken to progress this extension proposal at this time.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>RAF Northolt is a Government aerodrome regulated by the Ministry of Defence (MoD).</p><p> </p><p>CAA Safety Notice <a href="https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/SafetyNotice2015007..pdf" target="_blank">SN-2015/007</a> sets out the requirements for civil operators wishing to use Government aerodromes. Civil operators wishing to use RAF Northolt must satisfy themselves that the aerodrome is adequate in all respects for their use, obtain prior permission from the MoD, and familiarise themselves with the specific operating conditions outlined in the RAF Northolt aerodrome manual and the UK Aeronautical Information Publication.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>There have been no discussions with local authorities on the possible expansion of Heathrow and Gatwick airports.</p><p> </p><p>The Airports Commission shortlisted three airport expansion schemes, two at Heathrow and one at Gatwick. The Government accepted the Commission’s shortlist in December 2015 and is considering all of the evidence very carefully before reaching a view on its preferred scheme.</p> more like this
