I was however aware that the letter was to be sent. </p><p> I have said on more than one occasion that there is no justification for barristers failing to honour their professional obligations to the CPS because there is no dispute with the CPS about the level of prosecution fees. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/04/2014 answer text <p>The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) recognises that appropriate support is vital to ensure that victims of female genital mutilation (FGM) are able to give their evidence effectively in court. The CPS legal guidance advises prosecutors that in all cases of FGM they must ensure that the complainant is aware of the special measures that can be applied for at court, and that applications are made in time. For all child witnesses there is a presumption that they will give their evidence in chief by recorded interview and any further evidence by live link unless the court is satisfied that this will not improve the quality of the child's evidence. Adult victims of FGM are also eligible for special measures on the grounds that they are likely to be intimidated witnesses in relation to testifying at court. The five companies were Kent Pharmaceuticals, Norton Healthcare Ltd, Generics (UK) Ltd, Ranbaxy (UK) Ltd, and Goldshield Group plc. In 2008, a judge ordered the acquittal of all five companies.</p><p>If a company is to be prosecuted, it is usually necessary cases to demonstrate that the controlling minds of a company were knowing participants in the criminality being alleged. This can be difficult to prove, especially in complex cases, and so most SFO prosecutions have been of individuals rather than companies. Other outcomes are also possible. In 2010, BAE Systems plc agreed to make a £29.5 million payment for the benefit of the people of Tanzania, following a settlement with the SFO and the US Department of Justice. To ascertain the types and value of individual costs awards made over the last five years would require a review of each case and this would incur disproportionate cost.</p><p>The CPS central financial records indicate that the department was required to pay £772,129.54 in costs awards in 2013-14. It should be noted that the accounts for 2013-14 are not finalised and this figure will be subject to audit and adjustment. The recommendations of the report were that Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) legal guidance on Rape and Sexual Offences was updated and that CPS Headquarters may wish to liaise with ACPO about such disclosure to develop a national police form for use when the police consult complainants.
