We have seen a reduction of two percentage points in the reoffending rates of those supervised by Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs). We have been clear, however, that overall performance of CRCs needs to improve across a range of areas. We have taken decisive action to stabilise and improve the delivery of probation services, including by investing £22m per year to enhance ‘Through The Gate’ services and introducing minimum standards so that all providers offer monthly face-to-face meetings with offenders during their first 12 months of supervision. In September, we concluded a public consultation on proposals to end current CRC contracts early and introduce new arrangements for delivering probation services that will better integrate public, private and third sector probation providers and improve outcomes. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/04/2016 answer text <p>We want prisons to be places of hard work, rigorous education and high ambition, with incentives for prisoners to learn and for prison staff to prioritise education and employment opportunities.</p><p> </p><p>We already work with a wide range of employers in prison through One3One Solutions and engagement by Prison Governors. But we want Governors to do more so we are putting the tools to drive this change in the hands of those at the frontline who best know what works.</p><p> </p><p>We are keen to increase the number of employers who can provide valuable vocational work for offenders while in prison and who are able to offer them support in preparation for release and employment opportunities following their release. I regularly meet businesses across the country, to encourage them to get involved and new businesses are now coming on board as a consequence. The Employers Forum for Reducing Reoffending brings together employers willing to employ offenders and provides a range of advice and support to new employers considering working with offenders and provides business to business mentoring to members of the Forum. We are working with the Department for Work and Pensions to increase the involvement of more businesses. As the Prime Minister announced on 8 February, we will create 6 new reform prisons to spearhead this, with further change to follow.</p><p>Reform prisons will give Prison Governors the freedom to find better ways of rehabilitating offenders. Reform prisons will have one resource budget and discretion over how they spend it, rather than the current system which means Governors cannot transfer money between different budgets. They will be able to opt out of national contracts and services and choose their own suppliers such as education providers – who they can then hold to account for the quality of the service provided. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/09/2017 answer text <p>We have put in place a range of measures to support prisoners who are at risk of self-harm or suicide, especially in the early period in custody, when they are at their most vulnerable.</p><p>We have established a Prison Safety programme to support establishments in the implementation of the reforms set out in the Prison Safety and Reform White Paper, including our investment in an additional 2,500 staff who will help deliver consistent, purposeful regimes and allow us to introduce a new key worker role to support better staff-prisoner relationships.</p><p>We are rolling out new training across the estate to support our staff to identify the risks and triggers of suicide and self-harm and understand what they can do to support prisoners at risk. We have put in place specialist roles - regional safer custody teams - in every region to provide advice to prisons and to spread good practice on identifying and supporting prisoners at risk. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/01/2015 answer text <p>This Government will always ensure that we have enough prison places for those sent to us by the courts and we continue to modernise the prison estate so that it delivers best value for the taxpayer.</p><p> </p><p>We have a long term strategy for managing the prison estate which will provide more adult male prison capacity than we inherited from the previous Government. We also have a range of contingencies available to manage temporary or unexpected increases in the population.</p><p> </p><p>We are expecting to open over 2,000 adult male prison places in the coming months, which include 1,250 new places at four new house-blocks.
