star this property answer text
The Government has made £1 billion available to fund the removal of unsafe non-Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) cladding. This is in addition to the £600 million made available already to ensure the remediation of the highest risk ACM cladding. The Government’s decision to place the scope of the Building Safety Fund at buildings over 18 metres reflects the exceptional fire risk that certain cladding products pose at that height.

It remains building owners’ responsibility to address unsafe cladding on buildings of all heights. Government funding should not be the only means of funding remediation. Building owners should meet the costs without passing them on to leaseholders wherever possible, through their own resources or by recovering costs from applicable warranty schemes or from the developers or contractors who were responsible for the installation of installed unsafe cladding, as has happened with more than half of the private sector buildings with ACM cladding.
more like this

A fixed 15-year long-stop is not in the interests of consumers as it could limit the protection available on long-term investment products, where consumers may not realise they have a cause for complaint for more than 15 years. It is important that consumers can seek redress where it is due, so that they have the confidence to engage with financial services firms.
more like this

Responsibility for regulation was transferred from the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in April 2014.

The FCA has binding rules for firms, actionable with the full range of enforcement powers. These rules strengthen consumer protection and provide greater clarity to firms on what is expected of them. Firms are required to comply with the FCA’s high-level principles, including ‘treating customers fairly’.

FCA rules require firms to take reasonable steps to ensure that they maintain accurate and adequate data (including in respect of debt and repayment history). This mitigates the risk that a consumer who is not the true borrower is pursued for repayment of the debt, or that the borrower is pursued for an incorrect amount.

Firms must also ensure that information they hold about customers is made available to those involved in debt recovery processes. This information includes, for example, whether a customer is in financial difficulties or is particularly vulnerable; if the customer has disputed the debt; or whether there is a repayment plan or forbearance in place.

If consumers are concerned about erroneous entries on their credit file, they should contact the Information Commissioner (ICO). Currently, in England, the total forecast expenditure on environmental objectives is €2,406m (€601m per annum) from 2017-18 to 2020-21. Expenditure will fluctuate from year to year depending on the flow of projects and the number of applications for the Regional Development Fund and the Rural Development Programme for England. The UK’s participation in the Funds after our departure from the EU is subject to the outcome of exit negotiations, but the government has guaranteed that all European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIFs) projects signed before we leave the EU, will be fully funded, even when these projects continue beyond the UK’s departure from the EU.
more like this
