The Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights has also undertaken four visits to Eritrea since 2014 and started direct discussions with the Government of Eritrea on a number of areas of human rights concern. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/03/2018 answer text <p>As a first step to tackle the root causes of the conflict, we have been clear that a wide range of voices, including from women, local actors and civil society groups, must be heard in the peace process. This will make it more likely that a sustainable settlement is found. These groups will also help hold the government and other parties to account. Our funding is enabling the South Sudan Council of Churches, through the National Action Plan for Peace, to lead mediation and reconciliation efforts between national level leaders who have the power to stop the conflict. The country continues to be marked by violence and instability. CAR authorities maintain control of the capital, but lawlessness in other parts of the state has resulted in armed groups controlling over 70 per cent of the country.</p><p>I met President Touadera at the UN General Assembly in September 2018. We continue to monitor closely the situation in Darfur and urge the Government of Sudan to extend their full cooperation to UNAMID. In 2016, the Global Slavery Index ranked Sudan and South Sudan joint 6<sup>th</sup> out of 167 countries for the highest proportion of the population living in modern slavery.</p><p>The British Government is committed to the eradication of all forms of modern slavery and human trafficking by 2030, as unanimously adopted at the UN Sustainable Development Summit in 2015. The Prime Minister has made eradicating this scourge one of her top foreign policy priorities. She has pushed the UN and the broader international community to step up efforts in this respect, most recently by convening Leaders to launch a Call to Action to End Modern Slavery, which has so far been endorsed by 40 countries, including a number of African nations. We continue to call for the release of the remaining Chibok girls and all those abducted. Attacks on schools and abductions of children are abhorrent and must stop. It is important that all abductees released or recovered receive appropriate support, including for their families.
