	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/11/2018 answer text <p>Statutory assessments at Key Stages 1 and 2 are an essential part of ensuring that children master the basics of reading, writing and mathematics which are key to succeeding at secondary school and in later life. They help teachers understand how their pupils are performing against national expectations and enable them to identify where extra support may be needed. Statutory assessments also allows schools to be held to high standards and ensures that they offer a high quality education to all pupils. National curriculum tests undergo a robust three-year development process, taking account of pupils’ experiences of the tests through large-scale representative trialling and review by teachers, head teachers and assessment and inclusion experts.</p><p>Statutory assessments are not meant to cause stress and anxiety to pupils. Schools should encourage all pupils to work hard and achieve well. The Department trusts teachers to administer them in a proportionate way that does not put undue pressure on pupils, and certainly not at the expense of their wellbeing. Schools should provide continuous and appropriate support as part of a whole school approach to supporting the wellbeing and resilience of pupils. The consortium brings together significant expertise on the mental health of looked-after children, including Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC), and will work closely with selected sites to use their own learning and expertise to inform the project. The assessment framework will be tailored to the specific groups of looked-after children that each pilot site chooses to focus on which, for some sites, will be UASC.</p><p> </p><p>The pilots will also draw on the recommendations made by the Expert Working Group, which was commissioned by Department for Education and Department for Health and Social Care. The Expert Working Group found that the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) should be supported by a broader set of measures. The pilots will therefore use the SDQ alongside other assessment tools.</p><p> </p><p>We will be conducting a full evaluation of the pilots. The Government publishes an annual report on CONTEST which describes recent developments in the terrorist threat to the UK and its interests, and the progress made in our counter-terrorism work. This includes high-level information about the contribution of different Government departments to the implementation of the Prevent Strategy. This work has focussed on putting in place due diligence arrangements and strengthening regulatory frameworks to reduce the risk of children and young people being exposed to extremist views and to increase their resilience to extremism and radicalisation. The Secretary of State made a statement to the House on 29 January on the progress the Department is making to implement the recommendations contained in Peter Clarke’s report on Birmingham schools, and this gives details of a number of steps the Department has taken to tackle extremism in schools. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/03/2015 answer text <p>Tower Hamlets is one of 30 Prevent priority areas, identified through a prioritisation process which assesses information from police, local authorities and others. Each priority area receives funding for a Prevent coordinator, and is supported by the Home Office to develop delivery plans relating to Prevent objectives.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Local Prevent co-ordinators work with partners in their areas, including schools, for example by training frontline staff in tackling extremism and identifying people at risk. The local police also provide support.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Department for Education also works with individual schools where concerns arise. This includes 1,338 who have completed the programme and 2,366 currently training in England.</p><p> </p><p>Teach First started placing trainees in Hull in 2011. Schools are important to the Prevent strategy both in order to reduce risks of radicalisation, and because schools should be safe spaces where children and young people can challenge and discuss ideas around extremism. Training and information for schools is provided mainly through local Prevent networks, funded by the Home Office, and by the local police, who are best placed to work with schools and to provide support tailored to their particular circumstances. The support available includes trained experts who can deliver training and information in schools.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Since the publication of the Prevent strategy over 130,000 public sector workers, including school staff, have been trained on tackling extremism and identifying people at risk. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/03/2015 answer text <p>The Department for Education set up a dedicated unit, the Due Diligence and Counter Extremism Group, now a director-led group, to lead its contribution to the Prevent strategy, in particular by working to reduce the risk of unsuitable individuals and organisations from gaining influence over schools and strengthening regulatory frameworks.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Department has carried out due diligence checks to establish the suitability of individuals and organisations seeking to become involved in schools and in other activity involving children and young people. Work on strengthening regulatory frameworks includes, but is not limited to, amending the standards applying to institutions, teachers and governors to require them to conduct themselves in a way which is compatible with fundamental British values and enabling the Secretary of State and others to take action where they fail to do so. Ofsted has strengthened the school inspections handbook so that inspectors take account of how well schools promote fundamental British values, and protect pupils from the risks of extremism and radicalisation, when judging their effectiveness.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>A number of local Prevent projects, funded by the Home Office, engage schools and supplementary schools and train teachers in priority areas. The Home Office has established a monitoring framework to evaluate the local delivery of Prevent project funding to local authorities. The process for allocating funds requires projects to be evidence-based with clear steps to evaluate activity.
