	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/11/2018 answer text <p>Statutory assessments at Key Stages 1 and 2 are an essential part of ensuring that children master the basics of reading, writing and mathematics which are key to succeeding at secondary school and in later life. They help teachers understand how their pupils are performing against national expectations and enable them to identify where extra support may be needed. Statutory assessments also allows schools to be held to high standards and ensures that they offer a high quality education to all pupils. National curriculum tests undergo a robust three-year development process, taking account of pupils’ experiences of the tests through large-scale representative trialling and review by teachers, head teachers and assessment and inclusion experts.</p><p>Statutory assessments are not meant to cause stress and anxiety to pupils. Schools should encourage all pupils to work hard and achieve well. The Department trusts teachers to administer them in a proportionate way that does not put undue pressure on pupils, and certainly not at the expense of their wellbeing. Schools should provide continuous and appropriate support as part of a whole school approach to supporting the wellbeing and resilience of pupils. The consortium brings together significant expertise on the mental health of looked-after children, including Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC), and will work closely with selected sites to use their own learning and expertise to inform the project. The assessment framework will be tailored to the specific groups of looked-after children that each pilot site chooses to focus on which, for some sites, will be UASC.</p><p> </p><p>The pilots will also draw on the recommendations made by the Expert Working Group, which was commissioned by Department for Education and Department for Health and Social Care. The Expert Working Group found that the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) should be supported by a broader set of measures. The pilots will therefore use the SDQ alongside other assessment tools.</p><p> </p><p>We will be conducting a full evaluation of the pilots. Friend, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced in his Spring Statement on 13 March 2019 that the Department for Education will lead a scheme to provide access to free sanitary products in all secondary schools and colleges across England. On 16 April 2019, I announced that funding would be extended to cover need in primary schools and that national roll-out would take place in early 2020.</p><p>The department published an Invitation to Tender for the Period Products scheme on 15 June 2019, and we intend to award this contract in Autumn 2019. The Government publishes an annual report on CONTEST which describes recent developments in the terrorist threat to the UK and its interests, and the progress made in our counter-terrorism work. This includes high-level information about the contribution of different Government departments to the implementation of the Prevent Strategy. This work has focussed on putting in place due diligence arrangements and strengthening regulatory frameworks to reduce the risk of children and young people being exposed to extremist views and to increase their resilience to extremism and radicalisation. The Secretary of State made a statement to the House on 29 January on the progress the Department is making to implement the recommendations contained in Peter Clarke’s report on Birmingham schools, and this gives details of a number of steps the Department has taken to tackle extremism in schools. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/03/2015 answer text <p>Tower Hamlets is one of 30 Prevent priority areas, identified through a prioritisation process which assesses information from police, local authorities and others. Each priority area receives funding for a Prevent coordinator, and is supported by the Home Office to develop delivery plans relating to Prevent objectives.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Local Prevent co-ordinators work with partners in their areas, including schools, for example by training frontline staff in tackling extremism and identifying people at risk. The local police also provide support.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Department for Education also works with individual schools where concerns arise.
