Wholesale electricity prices vary across countries because of differences in energy mix, i.e. the type of generation (coal, gas, nuclear, wind, etc) available in the country; differences the type of market and regulatory framework in place, and differences in interconnection, i.e the links to other countries.

With regards to domestic energy prices, DECC publishes the UK’s rank in the G7 for domestic electricity and gas prices in its quarterly publications on domestic electricity and gas prices in the IEA. For domestic electricity, including taxes, the UK ranked 4th highest in the G7 in 2013. For domestic gas, including taxes, the UK ranked 3rd lowest in the G7 in 2013. Looking further ahead, the Capacity Market is designed to drive new investment to help keep the lights on, as well as getting the best out of our existing power stations and we have recently consulted on proposals to introduce the Capacity Market a year early, from 2017/18. A response to the consultation will be published shortly
more like this

unstar this property answer text
The term 'deportations' refers to a legal definition of a specific set of returns. Deportations are a specific subset of returns which are enforced either following a criminal conviction or when it is judged that a person’s removal from the UK is conducive to the public good. The deportation order prohibits the person returning to the UK until such time as it may be revoked.

Published information on those deported is not separately available. As such, the question has been interpreted as referring to enforced returns. In an enforced return, it has been established that a person has breached UK immigration laws and / or has no valid leave to remain in the UK. They have declined to leave voluntarily and the Home Office enforces their departure from the UK.

Statistics on persons returned from the UK is published in the Home Office’s Immigration Statistics. The latest edition, Immigration Statistics: April to June 2016 is available from GOV.UK on the statistics web pages at: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/home-office/series/immigration-statistics-quarterly-release.

unstar this property answer text
The table below shows the published National Statistics for the number of illegal migrants removed in the last three years for which complete data is available. Most immigration offenders are removed under administrative or illegal entry powers from the UK . Deportations are a specific subset of removals which are enforced either following a criminal conviction or when it is judged that a person’s removal from the UK is conducive to the public good. The deportation order prohibits the person returning to the UK until such time as it may be revoked. We have taken the question as meaning all enforced removals.

Year ending

Total

June 2013

14,159

June 2014

12,539

June 2015

12,609

Grand Total

39,307

These figures do not include those who left the UK voluntarily from within the immigration detention estate as part of our ongoing promotion of voluntary returns options, for example those who departed on the Assisted Voluntary Returns (AVR) Scheme whilst in detention, which was available to detainees up to April 2014, or those who choose to buy their own ticket once the subject of enforcement action.

By way of context, these figures correspond over the same period with a rise in the number of departures facilitated by the Home Office without the use of detention, which has been realised by increasing contact with people who are in the UK unlawfully and limiting their access to services for which they are not entitled.

This ban was reaffirmed in 2001 and most recently in the Tobacco Products Directive 2014/40/EU, implemented in the United Kingdom by the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016. The Department has received a number of representations concerning snus over recent years. The makers of snus, Swedish Match, have challenged the legality of the ban on snus and this matter is currently before the European Court of Justice; as such, the strength of the evidence for or against the ban is a matter for the Court and the UK awaits the outcome of that case.
more like this
