– <strong>26,966</strong></p><p>2009-2010 – <strong>29,270</strong></p><p> </p><p>The
reduction in the overall number of serving magistrates is a natural consequence of
falling workloads in the magistrates' courts, due to factors such as falling crime
combined with the relatively steady levels of retirements and resignations.</p><p>
