star this property answer text <p><del class="ministerial">A small number of shooting clubs are approved to use firearms which use armour-piercing ammunition.</del></p><p> </p><p><ins class="ministerial">The possession of armour-piercing or explosive ammunition is prohibited under section 5 of the Firearms Act 1968 and can only be used with the</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">authority of the Secretary of State. star this property answer text <p>On 14 October the Government launched a public consultation on proposals to strengthen controls on offensive and dangerous weapons, including the prohibition of two types of firearm: .50 calibre ‘materiel destruction’ rifles and rapid fire rifles, such as the VZ58 Manually Actuated Release System (MARS) rifle. The consultation closes on 9 December.</p><p>The Fifty Calibre Shooters Association has requested a meeting with officials to discuss the proposals and this is being arranged. We have not had a similar request from the National Rifle Association but would welcome their views.</p> more like this

The ammunition is subject to control under section 1 of the Firearms Act 1968 and a person wishing to purchase or to home load their own ammunition must hold a valid firearm certificate issued by the police.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The firearms licensing function in respect of firearm and shotgun certificates is administered by the police. The Home Office does not hold information in relation to those firearms applications. However, in general terms, before granting or renewing a certificate, the chief officer of police must be satisfied that the applicant can be permitted to have the firearm(s)/ammunition in their possession without danger to the public safety or to the peace. There is a range of legitimate reasons to hold firearms in this country, which includes target shooting with these rifles.</p> more like this

Many police forces contain a mixture of urban and rural areas.
