<p>In 2013/14 41%(1) percent of young people who had been sentenced to custody were
not receiving any education, training or employment at the end of their licence period.</p><p>
</p><p>Our Transforming Youth Custody programme is improving the prospects of effective
resettlement of young people leaving custody. We are working closely with other Government
Departments to provide young people with the opportunities they need, including through
the Youth Engagement Fund which will help to close the attainment gap for disadvantaged
14-17 year olds, including those that have come into contact with the youth justice
system.</p><br />(1) Information is extracted from YOTs’ electronic case management
system and is taken from the last week of the custodial licence period. These figures
have been drawn from administrative IT systems, which, as with any large scale recording
system, are subject to possible errors with data entry and processing and can be subject
to change over time.
