star this property answer text <p>The Department for Transport is taking steps to improve roads around the UK’s exit and entry points, as expansion happens at many of our ports around the country. On strategic roads, Highways England has published their 2017/18 Delivery Plan which provides updates on schemes from 2015 to 2020, including those that improve access to our ports and airports. <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/642750/Highways_England_Delivery_Plan_Update_2017-2018.pdf" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/642750/Highways_England_Delivery_Plan_Update_2017-2018.pdf</a></p><p> </p><p>The Department for Transport is also working closely with other relevant Departments and agencies, and in consultation with the industry, to ensure that plans are in place to address the full range of possible future scenarios at the border following our exit from the European Union. The costs of any necessary interventions are being developed as part of this planning.</p><p> </p>

star this property answer text <p>One of the government’s key objectives for the UK’s future customs regime is to ensure that trade including that with the EU remains as frictionless as possible. At this stage the level of future facilitation at the border between the UK and the EU is unknown and subject to the outcome of negotiations. It is therefore not possible to weigh up the costs and benefits to business.</p><p> </p><p>The government is undertaking a comprehensive programme of analytical work to assess, across a range of scenarios on a sector by sector basis, the economic impacts of exiting the European Union, but this analysis is sensitive in the context of negotiations with the EU. As Parliament has agreed, it would not be appropriate to publish any such information that could damage our negotiating position.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The delivery of the new Customs Declaration Service (CDS) is on target, and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) expects to meet its planned delivery date in January 2019. The progress of the programme is subject to rigorous and ongoing internal scrutiny.</p><p> </p><p>Nevertheless, HMRC has robust contingency arrangements in place, including:</p><p>- A transition process between August 2018 and January 2019 where traders will start moving to CDS.</p><p>- Dual-running of the existing Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) service with CDS.</p><p>- Ensuring CHIEF can handle larger volumes of declarations.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>As we leave the EU, the government is committed to ensuring that UK and EU businesses and consumers can continue to trade freely with one another. The UK will seek to agree a time-limited implementation period with the EU, during which access to one another’s markets should continue on current terms. This would help to minimise unnecessary disruption and provide certainty for businesses and individuals in the UK and the EU.</p><p>The UK will look to secure greater access to overseas markets for UK goods exports after leaving the EU as well as push for greater liberalisation of global services, investment and procurement markets.</p> more like this
