The NOC receives funding from NERC’s non-competitive funding and the wider community to pursue science that is nationally and internationally important.</p><p> </p><p>The NOC was part of NERC. From 1 November 2019, NOC operates as an independent research institute, a charitable company limited by guarantee. This new structure ensures that NOC is more agile, financially more resilient with more freedoms and flexibilities. The SIC will ensure our relationship with India remains ambitious, strategic, outcome-focused and in line with the UK-India 2030 roadmap. This is achieved primarily through funding from UKRI for the National Centre for the 3Rs (NC3Rs), which works nationally and internationally to drive the uptake of approaches that replace, reduce and refine the use of animals in research.</p><p> </p><p>Since the NC3Rs was launched in 2004 it has committed £49.2M for research and innovation in non-animal technologies. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/01/2023 answer text <p>The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is an independent body, and this update is part of a wider programme of work to improve economic statistics. Its 22 November 2022 release estimated that £59.7bn was invested in UK R&amp;D in 2019, increasing to £61.8bn in 2020. The ONS has not published estimate of R&amp;D as a percentage of GDP. This is because they have not yet incorporated the improvements to the measurement of R&amp;D in the business and higher education sectors into the calculations of GDP.</p><p> </p><p>BEIS understands the complexity and time required in feeding the updated R&amp;D changes through to GDP as part of National Accounts and looks forward to this calculation in due course.
