The latest Family Resources Survey data is for 2016/17. This report and the carers data tables can be found at the following link:</p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/family-resources-survey-financial-year-201617" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/family-resources-survey-financial-year-201617</a></p><p> </p><p>There were an estimated 5.4 million informal carers in the United Kingdom in 2016/17 available on “Table 5.1: Percentage of people providing informal care by gender, 2006/07 to 2016/17, United Kingdom”.</p><p> </p><p>10 per cent of people aged 65+ reported providing informal care. Further age splits are available on “Table 5.2: Percentage of people providing informal care by age and gender, 2016/17, United Kingdom”.</p><p>The FRS data on people providing informal care is self-reported by FRS respondents.</p><p>This data is for all informal carers aged 65+, we have not made an assumption regarding what constitutes ‘significant’ caring responsibilities.</p><p> </p><p>On “Table 5.4: Adult informal carers by employment status and gender, 2016/17, United Kingdom”, 1 per cent of all adult informal carers are classed as being a student, by their employment status.</p><p>The FRS data on people providing informal care is self-reported by FRS respondents.</p><p>This data is for all adult informal carers, we have not made an assumption regarding what constitutes ‘significant’ caring responsibilities.</p><p>This data is not specifically for students in full-time education and may include students on sandwich courses. 2 per cent of all adults are classed as being students. The FRS uses the International Labour Organisation (ILO) definition of employment status and defines a student as a subcategory of Economically Inactive. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/05/2019 answer text <p>Universal Credit is a 24 hour, seven days a week, digital service that allows claimants to manage their own data and account online at a time which is convenient for them. Via their account claimants can check their Universal Credit benefit payments, notify us of changes and record notes via an online journal facility. In addition, established claimants who call the Freephone Universal Credit helpline are connected directly to the person or team who are dealing with the case.</p><p> </p><p>We are aware that some claimants who are working may find it difficult to access our Jobcentre Plus Service due to their work commitments, however, not all Universal Credit claimants are required to attend interviews at their local Jobcentre. This will depend on their individual personal circumstances. How the change affects a claimant’s payments depends on the type of change, which benefit they are receiving, the claim’s status before the change occurs and whether the change was self-reported by the claimant or by a third party.</p><p> </p><p>In all cases the Department works with the claimant to ensure payment continuity wherever possible. We have recently started a pilot to test the demand for Jobcentre Plus Services on a Saturday. A working-age adult living in a household where every adult is working is about 6 times less likely to be in relative poverty than one living in a household where nobody works.</p><p> </p><p>Universal Credit (UC) replaces six outdated and complex benefits with one – it is simplifying the benefits system and making work pay. As a result, people claiming UC move into work faster, stay in work longer and spend more time looking to increase their earnings. UC provides more help with childcare costs (eligible claimants are able to claim up to 85 per cent of their childcare costs, compared to 70% on the legacy system), a dedicated Work Coach, and removes the 16-hour ‘cliff edge’ for workers.</p><p> </p><p>The Department continues to conduct research and analysis to enhance our understanding surrounding working claimants, as well as working with stakeholders and customers to develop our approach. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/01/2020 answer text <p>The government is committed to delivering a sustainable long-term solution to poverty in all its forms and in all parts of the UK by building a strong economy and ensuring that the benefit system works with the tax system and the labour market to support employment and higher pay.</p><p>The evidence shows that full time work substantially reduces the risk of being in poverty. Universal Credit is designed to help people move into work faster, stay in work longer and spend more time looking to increase their earnings, provides more financial help with childcare costs and removes the 16-hour ‘cliff edge<strong>’</strong> for those who are working. To help families keep more of what they earn we have delivered another rise in the National Living Wage, increasing a full-time worker’s annual pay by over £2,750 since its introduction, and by nearly £3,700 with the recently announced rise from this April, with our tax changes making basic rate tax payers over £1,200 better off from April 2019, compared with 2010.</p><p>In order to develop a better understanding of the drivers of food insecurity and identify which groups are most at risk we have introduced a new set of food security questions in the Family Resources Survey questionnaire from April 2019 onwards.
