answer text <p>The additional support to expand existing exemptions for care leavers and former residents of homeless hostels has been brought forward by over two years and made available from 31<br>May 2021. <br><br></p><p />However, the new exemptions from the shared accommodation rate for victims of domestic violence and modern slavery will require more significant amendments to legislation as well as local<br />authority and Universal Credit IT systems, which will take time to develop and implement. <p /><p /><p>For those who require additional housing support and whose circumstances may make it difficult for them to share accommodation, Discretionary Housing Payments are<br>available. Since 2011, the government has provided over £1 billion in Discretionary Housing Payments to local authorities to help support vulnerable people.</p><p /><p /> more like this

answer text <p><strong> </strong></p><p>The data to produce the requested information is not readily available and to provide it would incur disproportionate cost.</p><p> </p><p>However, we are transforming the Access to Work service through increased digitalisation, which will make the service more efficient, will make the application process easier, and will improve the time taken from application through to decision. We are also currently testing a revised digital payment journey for Access to Work claims which will provide Access to Work customers with the ability to submit claim information electronically. Moving away from the current clerical process will provide a more efficient, streamlined service for customers.</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>As part of the Government’s strategy to support people affected by the Covid-19 public health emergency, DWP is making a number of temporary changes to its benefit processes (and legislation) to ensure people who need financial help have access to the benefit system when they need it.</p><p>To avoid increasing the burden on health care professionals and the risk of further infection, we are removing the requirement for fit notes in relation to both Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and Universal Credit (UC) claims relating to Covid-19 only.</p><p>Everyone that claims who is infected with Covid-19 or who is required to self-isolate will be treated as having Limited Capability for Work in ESA and UC without the requirement for medical evidence or undergoing a Work Capability Assessment.</p><p>In addition to better support the needs of people (particularly the self-employed and those not eligible for SSP) and/or not entitled to Universal Credit (UC) we are removing the seven waiting days that currently apply to ESA.</p><p>This means that everyone who makes a new claim for ESA; is entitled to the benefit and is infected with Covid-19 or required to self-isolate will be paid from day one of their claim.</p><p>Staff are ready to support people who need to self-isolate.</p>

answer text <p>Attendance Allowance helps those with a severe disability, who have long term care or supervision needs, where those needs arise after reaching State Pension age. Entitlement is based on the on-going need for frequent personal care and attention, or supervision to ensure personal safety. There is no constraint on what the benefit can be used for, and individual recipients can choose to use their Attendance Allowance to fund mobility aids.</p><p> </p><p>Latest published figures at end of February 2020, show that nationally there were 1.44m claimants of attendance allowance; In terms of expenditure - nationally this was forecast to be £5.9 billion in 2019/20.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Carer’s Allowance is a devolved benefit under the Scotland Act 2016. The Scottish Government pays a Supplement to all its recipients, regardless of their means. The UK Government takes a different approach and directs more of its financial support across Great Britain towards carers on the lowest incomes. For example, carers in receipt of Universal Credit can receive around an additional £1,965 a year through the Carer Element.</p><p> </p><p>Social security is a transferred matter in Northern Ireland.</p> more like this

PhD candidates, and students, can qualify for Maternity Allowance provided they meet the employment and earnings test.
