star this property answer text <p>The UK government is seeking provisions in trade agreements that remove barriers to the free flow of data, while not lowering the standard of protection afforded to the personal data of UK individuals. The UK is, and will remain, committed to maintaining high standards of protection for personal data, including when it is transferred across borders. The UK recognises the importance of data protection to enable trading partners to build trust through transparent treatment of personal data and to ensure that data is able to flow in an uninterrupted manner.</p><p><ins class="ministerial">Currently cross-border data flows as well as privacy and personal information protection are being discussed at the e-commerce negotiations at the World Trade Organization (WTO). The UK will not sign up to any agreement at the WTO which will put at risk the UK’s high standards of data protection, or the personal data protection or privacy currently afforded to UK individuals.</ins></p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Department does not hold data on infection rates amongst (a) teachers, (b) teaching assistants, (c) non teaching school staff, (d) staff in registered childcare settings,<ins class="ministerial"> and</ins> (e) college staff<ins class="ministerial">.</ins> <del class="ministerial">and (f) university staff.</del></p><p> </p><p><ins class="ministerial">For (f) university staff, the department has asked higher education (HE) providers to share information on their staff numbers and the number of staff COVID-19 cases that have been reported to them. For the 183 HE providers which provided this information to us for the 7 days between 10 and 16 December, our estimate is that there were 56.7 confirmed cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 non-academic and academic staff in HE providers for that period.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">Estimates for more recent weeks are not available due to: i) a pause in data collection over the winter break and ii) inconsistencies arising from the effect of the national lockdown that began this month.</ins></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Advice from the Children's Task and Finish group is that children are at very low risk of serious illness from the virus, and there is also no current evidence that staff<ins class="ministerial"> in schools and colleges</ins> are at higher risk of infection than those working in other sectors. The Government is doing all it can to minimise the risks to those working and studying in our nurseries, schools, colleges, and universities in this unprecedented situation, while mitigating the impact on education.</p><p> </p><p>On 7 January, the Department published guidance to universities and students returning to higher education in the spring term. This guidance sets out how we will support higher education providers to enable students to return as safely as possible following the winter break, by staggering this process following the period of national lockdown and to facilitate testing for all. star this property answer text <p>The Government has made it clear that any future trade deal with the US must work for farmers, food manufacturers and UK consumers as well as protecting the UK’s high standards of food safety, animal welfare and environmental protection.</p><p> </p><p>The existing food safety provisions regarding chlorine and other pathogen reduction treatments for poultry will be transferred into UK law by the European Union (Withdrawal) Act. star this property answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is taking a number of positive actions to make it easier for smaller companies to do business with defence, for example launching sub-contract advertising on our online portal and engaging more regularly with smaller businesses to help understand the challenges they face. We are also introducing new measures to ensure prime contractors' pay promptly and working to improve the pipeline information that we publish.</p><p>The MOD Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Action Plan 2019-2022 was published in March 2019 and this sets out the actions we are taking in more detail. star this property answer text <ul><li>The Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) will be a non-departmental independent public body and will be established with the passing of the Trade Bill. Before that happens, and to provide certainty to UK businesses that they will not be exposed to injury from unfair trade practices, the Trade Remedies Investigations Directorate has been temporarily established within DIT to make assessments and recommendations in a respect of a trade remedy measure.</li><li>There are currently (23<sup>rd</sup> July 2019) 104 staff working for Trade Remedies Investigations Directorate and these will transfer to the TRA once it has been established.</li></ul> more like this
