star this property answer text <p>The Secretary of State led a delegation of over 100 UK companies to the Consumer Electronics Show, the largest trade show in the world in support of fantastic, innovative UK business. The full costs of the Secretary of State’s visit was paid for by the department.</p><p> </p><p>The Department’s Tradeshow Access Programme provides grants to eligible businesses to attend overseas trade shows. This Programme supported 16 businesses to attend the Consumer Electronics Show, at a cost of approximately £2,000 per business. None of these businesses had their visit fully funded by the department.</p><p> </p><p>The department does not hold information on private costs incurred by members of the delegation to attend the Consumer Electronics Show.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) are development-focused trade agreements which aim to promote increased trade and investment and thereby contribute to sustainable development and poverty reduction.</p><p> </p><p>I am satisfied that criticism raised during the negotiation of the EPAs is addressed in the agreements. For example, concerns about potential impact of competition with EU goods is addressed in various ways, including the provision of a wide range of safeguards to protect African domestic products for fledgling industries or for food security.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Department for International Trade (DIT) works to secure UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment and championing free trade in Central America and Panama.</p><p> </p><p>DIT has recently appointed Jo Crellin as Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Latin America and the Caribbean as part of efforts to enhance the support available to British business overseas. DIT offers support to companies in Central America through our teams in Costa Rica and Panama working closely with the FCO across the region in enhancing British trade and Investment.</p><p> </p><p>Since the department’s formation in July 2016 there have been 21 staff members posted to Panama and Central America focusing on trade promotion.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, DIT has recently appointed Simon Hart, MP, as Trade Envoy for Panama, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.</p><p> </p><p>UK Export Finance (UKEF) support is available across Central America; in Panama, specifically we have doubled UKEF’s capacity to £3.5bn and introduced local currency financing.</p><p> </p><p>This work was also supported by 37 trade missions to Central America and Panama in the last 5 years.</p><p> </p><p><a href="http://great.gov.uk/" target="_blank">Great.gov.uk</a> is a platform designed by the Department for International Trade to help UK businesses secure their place on the global stage while presenting to overseas companies, including those in Central America, the breadth of industries and investment opportunities in the UK. Since the site was launched in November 2016 it has been visited by over 3 million users, helping overseas businesses connect with UK suppliers.</p><p> </p>

The Prime Minister and the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed in August 2017 to ‘work quickly to establish a new economic partnership between Japan and the UK based on the final terms of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement’.</p> more like this

Friend the Secretary of State for International Trade has regular discussions with his Cabinet colleagues on a variety of topics.</p><p> </p><p>We are leaving the Customs Union and have presented two potential options for our future customs relationship with the EU: the New Customs Partnership and the Highly Streamlined Customs Arrangement.</p><p> </p><p>The government will be guided by what delivers the greatest economic advantage to the UK and by our strategic objectives: to keep trade with the EU as frictionless as possible; to avoid a ‘hard border’ between Ireland and Northern Ireland and to establish an independent international trade policy.</p><p> </p><p>Leaving the Customs Union will allow an independent UK trade policy to reach ambitious and innovative trade agreements with the world's fastest-growing economies.</p> more like this
