	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/04/2019 answer text <p>The UK remains deeply concerned by the humanitarian situation throughout Syria, which is why DFID is working closely with the UN and our INGO partners to maintain an up to date picture of conditions and humanitarian needs, including within Syria’s Internally displaced persons’ (IDP) camps. These assessments help us to better understand the conditions inside these camps and support the people in most desperate need. Our aid inside Syria helps people regardless of their country of origin and is driven by these assessments by the UN and INGO partners, to make sure food, medical care and shelter reaches the people who need it most.</p><p> </p><p>IDP camps in Syria are overseen by the organisation which governs the area where a camp is located. The British Government strongly condemns the persecution of communities on the basis of their religion, belief or ethnicity. <br><br>The UN estimates that 1.9 million people in Iraq have been displaced by the humanitarian emergency in total. All UK funded aid is distributed on the basis of need to ensure civilians are not discriminated against on the grounds of race, religion or ethnicity. If the school is closed due to extreme weather and/or extenuating circumstances, and education is not being provided for pupils elsewhere, then the school would not be expected to provide free school meals.</p><p>Where meals are provided, our guidance advises schools to work with their school catering team or food provider to provide good quality lunch parcels. Where this is not practicable, schools may make local arrangements to supply vouchers.</p><p>The Department does not keep records of which schools make meal or voucher provision during periods of closure, nor the number of pupils supported under such arrangements.</p><p>Around 1.9 million pupils are claiming FSM. Together with a further 1.25 million infants supported through UIFSM policy, over one third of school children are now provided with a free meal, at a cost of over £1 billion a year.
