answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/03/2019 answer text <p>Last week, we announced an uplift of funding for the 2019/20 Places of Worship Protective Security Funding Scheme to £1.6 million. This is double the amount awarded in 2018/19. Under the 2016 Hate Crime Action Plan, we committed £2.4m over three years to provide protective security measures to places of worship which have been subject to or are vulnerable to hate crime attacks, and so far we have awarded grants to just under 50 mosques. The 2019/20 scheme was announced as a fourth year of funding in October 2018.</p><p><br>The Home Office also announced last week a new £5 million fund over 3 years to provide security training for Places of Worship in England and Wales. This will enable staff and volunteers to develop the security understanding necessary to make physical security measures work effectively.</p><p><br>We are already engaging with faith representatives and organisations including the Anti-Muslim Hatred Working Group, Tell Mamma and the Independent Advisory Group on Hate Crime, and will open a consultation shortly to review what more can be and should be done to protect faith communities more widely.</p> answering member constituency Louth and Horncastle answering member printed Victoria Atkins question first answered 28/03/2019 16:17:43 answering member 4399 label Biography information for Victoria Atkins

The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 outlines some circumstances where spent cautions and convictions are disclosable and may be taken into account when assessing a person’s suitability for certain positions. Broadly speaking, standard and enhanced criminal record checks are only available in relation to jobs which involve special risks and sensitivities, such as working closely with children or vulnerable adults. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/01/2018 answer text <p>The Government is delivering a range of action to prevent violent crime including action to tackle knife crime and gang related violence and exploitation.</p><p>Our work to tackle knife crime includes early intervention and prevention work with key partners such as the charity Redthread who intervene with young people in hospital at the ‘teachable moment’. We have awarded £765,000 from a new anti-knife crime community fund launched in October 2017 to support local communities to tackle knife crime. 47 different projects have been supported through the community fund, and the projects awarded funding were particularly aimed at helping young people.</p><p>We are also supporting the Operation Sceptre national week of action by police forces to tackle knife crime which is taking place in February. Police forces will be undertaking weapon sweeps, targeted stop and search operations, undertaking test purchasing, encouraging the use of surrender bins, and carrying out educational activities with young people.</p><p>Through the Ending Gang Violence and Exploitation (EGVE) programme the Home Office is providing match funding for local area and strategic reviews in areas experiencing gang related issues and challenges to test and build local resilience towards tackling these types of criminal activity, especially county lines. 13 local areas were reviewed in 2016/17 and a further 15 areas are benefiting from these reviews in 2017/18. This supports our wider work to tackle county lines and especially preventing young people becoming offenders or victims through county lines drugs dealing with its associated violence and exploitation. The new Drugs Dealing Telecommunications Restriction Orders (DDTROs) introduced in December will also help tackle county lines drugs dealing.</p><p>We have provided funding for 12 Young People’s Advocates to work directly with gang-affected women and girls. We have also provided funding in 2017/18 of over £280,000 to 16 local EGVE projects, including projects delivering gang, knife and county lines awareness training for young people, practitioners and foster carers, community sports and arts projects and mentoring programmes.</p><p>An action plan to tackle the use of acid and other corrosives in violent attacks was announced by the Home Secretary in July 2017. This included actions to improve the policing response and also the introduction of a voluntary set of commitments for retailers to not sell certain particularly harmful corrosive substances to under 18s. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/02/2018 answer text <p>The Equality Act 2010 provides protections against discrimination and harassment of transgender people in the workplace.</p><p>In 2015, the Government published guidance for employers and service providers on how to specifically support and include transgender people at work. This helps them to meet their obligations under the Equality Act 2010.</p><p>The Government is currently assessing the over 100,000 responses to our National LGBT survey. The survey included a number of questions on experiences of employment. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/02/2018 answer text <p>The Home Office is the department responsible for supporting victims of modern slavery in England and Wales.</p><p>Tackling the crime of modern slavery and human trafficking is a priority for the Government, both domestically and internationally. The support and protection of victims is a key part of this agenda.</p><p> </p><p>The Prime Minister has championed the issue of tackling modern slavery at the G7, G20 and the United Nations General Assembly, where in 2017 she launched the Call to Action to End Forced Labour, Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking that 43 countries have now endorsed. Tackling human trafficking and child exploitation will be discussed during the week of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/03/2018 answer text <p>The Government is committed to tackling all forms of extremism and terrorism, whether Islamist or far and extreme right-wing.</p><p>In December 2016, the neo-Nazi group National Action became the first extreme right-wing group to be proscribed. Additionally, our latest published statistics showed that around a quarter of all those who received support through Channel were referred because of far right concerns. Channel is a voluntary and confidential programme which supports individuals who are vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism.</p><p>Through the 2016 Hate Crime Action Plan the Government has funded additional security measures in 129 places of worship, including places targeted by far and extreme right-wing extremists. The Action Plan will be refreshed later in 2018. The 2015 Counter-Extremism Strategy sets out a four year programme of work for defeating extremism at source by countering extremist ideology; supporting mainstream voices, especially in faith communities and civil society; disrupting the most harmful extremists; and building more cohesive communities by tackling segregation.</p><p>The Government has established an Extremism Analysis Unit (EAU) to support government and the wider public sector to understand the threat from extremism. The EAU will continue to learn from existing capabilities to analyse extremism, including external experts.</p><p>In March 2018 the Government launched an independent Commission for Countering Extremism.
