star this property answer text
We are committed to ensuring that all families have access to high quality, flexible and affordable childcare that meets the needs of working parents and supports the best outcomes for children. Extending the hours over which funded provision can be delivered, from 7.00am to 7.00pm to 6.00am to 8.00pm, means that providers can offer the 30 hours entitlement more flexibly.

Our early delivery areas have developed and tested innovative, flexible childcare approaches to support working families. In the early implementation evaluation survey, over three-quarters (78%) of parents reported that they had greater flexibility in their working life as a result of the 30 hours entitlement. Case studies showed that increased work flexibility helped parents to obtain more secure employment, enhanced career opportunities and improved their work-life balance. These approaches have been shared widely with all providers and local authorities.

We have also published practical, hands-on guidance for providers who want to work in partnership to deliver the entitlement, so that individual providers that cannot meet parents’ needs on their own can work effectively with others in order to do so.

This increased level of funding is based on our comprehensive “Review of Childcare Costs” which looked at both the current costs of childcare provision and the implications of future cost pressures including the National Living Wage. The Review was described as “thorough and wide ranging” by the National Audit Office.

Under our new early years national funding formula, we are allocating funding fairly and transparently, so that early years providers can deliver free childcare on a sustainable and high-quality basis in all areas of England. We have also legislated to ensure that local authorities pass on at least 93% of their Government funding to early years providers. Providers in the vast majority of local authorities will have seen funding increases this year and we are also providing guidance, tools and support for providers to help make their businesses more sustainable and efficient.

Our recently published independent evaluation of the early rollout of 30 hours childcare programme shows that over 80% of providers were willing and able to offer the extended hours. star this property answer text
Building Schools for the Future was cancelled in July 2010. Rather than providing new school places, the programme’s main aim was to rebuild or refurbish all secondary and special schools in England by 2020.

Supporting local authorities to create sufficient school places is one of the Government’s top priorities and we fund all school places needed based on local authorities’ own forecasts. We are spending £7 billion to create new school places between 2015 and 2021, which, along with our investment in the free schools programme, we expect to provide 600,000 new places, including 270,000 in free schools. The latest data shows that nearly 735,000 additional pupil places were created between May 2010 and May 2016 with many more delivered since then and in the pipeline.

On top of this, our current school rebuilding programme, the Priority School Building Programme, is meeting the condition need at 537 schools across the country. It has reduced timescales to start building works by up to two years and is delivering projects for a third cheaper than Building Schools for the Future.
