The CPS was not a party to this release and did not issue any other release. The CPS does not retain records of publicity resulting at the time.</p><p> </p><p>When the case was reviewed in 2014 for charging, the complainant and the witness clearly stated that the complainant had been 15 when the incident took place in 1986.<del class="ministerial"> In addition Mr Virdi also said in interview that the complainant had been 15 at the time of the incident.</del> The police summary stated that the complainant was 15. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/09/2015 answer text <p>The decision to prosecute Gurpal Virdi for misconduct in public office and indecent assault was made in accordance with the Full Code Test as set out in the Code for Crown Prosecutors. The case was handled by a specialist unit within the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), prosecuted by Treasury Counsel and supervised at very senior levels of the CPS.</p><p>There was detailed legal argument and a defence application to dismiss the case before trial. The application failed. At trial no defence submission was made to the trial judge that the matter should not be left to the jury. Mr Virdi was subsequently acquitted by the jury after a full trial.</p><p>I understand that the CPS has already written to my Hon. Friend with a more detailed explanation of the decision making in this case and I am satisfied that the CPS have handled the prosecution appropriately. However, I am happy to meet my Hon. I am keen that Arts Council England and English National Opera work together on the future of the organisation.</p><p>All decisions on which organisations to fund through the 2023–26 Investment Programme, and by how much, have been taken by Arts Council England in line with the long-standing principle that Arts Council England makes such decisions at arm’s length from the Government. Payment by instalments can provide consumers with a helpful way to spread the costs of household goods and services, and this can be an important budgeting tool for consumers.</p><p> </p><p>The Government took action in 2015 to exempt credit that is provided free of interest and charges over less than 12 months from Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulation, unless 12 or more repayments are due.</p><p> </p><p>To be exempt from FCA regulation, the credit agreement must not be a conditional sale, hire purchase or pawn agreement, and must not finance the purchase of land. The credit agreement must finance the purchase of specific goods or services, must be for a fixed amount, and must contain no charges, interest or administration fees.</p><p> </p><p>The provisions within the Consumer Credit Act 1974 (CCA) to enable full payment ahead of time do not apply to agreements which fall under this exemption. The CCA provides important safeguards to protect consumers, and so the exemption is limited to agreements which meet the specified criteria.
