	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/10/2017 answer text <p>We take the issue of illegal trafficking of puppies very seriously, and the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) are gathering intelligence to help us understand the size of the problem regarding puppy smuggling.</p><p>Defra and APHA work constructively with other government agencies and charities to share intelligence on illegal movements of pet animals. APHA has established an intelligence team which will gather data, intelligence and information on illegal movement of dogs and puppies and, as appropriate, share with enforcement bodies.</p><p>APHA works in partnership with the Dogs Trust and Kent County Council to identify and seize dogs and puppies which were not compliant with the requirements as part of a pilot project at Dover responding to intelligence on potential non-compliance. However, we are preparing a new statutory laying hen code which will provide up to date guidance on how to comply with the legislation.</p><p> </p></li><li><p>We have made it very clear that we do not support the routine preventative use of antibiotics, or the use of antibiotics to compensate for poor animal husbandry. This is reflected in the revised “Responsible use of animal medicines on the farm” guidelines published in December 2014. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/10/2015 answer text <p>There are a number of good examples where support has been provided to the successful, beneficial re-use and recycling of dredged materials, including land formation at Allfleet’s Marsh on Wallasea Island, beach replenishment in Poole Bay and land claim undertaken to construct the London Gateway Port in the Thames Estuary. However, when the 2006 Act was reviewed in 2010 and when the Parliamentary Select Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs carried out its review “Animal Welfare in England: Domestic Pets” there were no specific recommendations made relating to rabbits. New regulations on the sale of pet animals including rabbits will include a requirement that all licensed sellers must provide information about the animals on sale. Under The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018 it is clear that anyone in the business of selling pets, whether online or from a traditional pet shop, will need a licence from their local authority. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/05/2018 answer text <p>Canine Distemper is not a notifiable disease in the United Kingdom (UK) or the European Union (EU) and there is no requirement for dogs entering the country to be inspected or tested for the disease. There is a requirement for pets entering the UK to undergo identification and documentary checks to ensure that an adequate health preparation has taken place prior to entering the country.</p><p> </p><p>There is no official guidance with regard to distemper, however, the department stresses good practice for owners and kennels to protect their dogs against the virus given that there is a vaccine available globally. The guidance titled “Getting your Pet Vaccinated” has been published by the British Veterinary Association in relation to vaccinations suitable for the protection of pets which Defra promotes.</p><p> </p><p>All pet dogs moving to the UK for sale or rehoming must be examined by an Official Veterinarian (OV) in the country of origin prior to embarkation to ensure compliance with the Balai Directive for commercial movements.
