	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/07/2020 answer text <p>In line with the EU law rights protected by the Withdrawal Agreement, the EU Settlement Scheme permits an applicant to have an absence (or absences) from the UK of up to six months in any 12-month period. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/02/2021 answer text <p>Asylum seekers are not going to be denied entry to the UK from red-list countries and their asylum claims will be processed as usual.</p><p>The Home Office have a statutory duty to accommodate any asylum seekers who would otherwise be destitute. Asylum seekers who would otherwise be destitute are provided with free, fully furnished accommodation while their applications for asylum are considered. The ‘contents’ sheet contains an overview of all available data on asylum.</p><p> </p><p>The published data does not show the country from which the asylum seeker left when they began their journey (or through which country or countries the asylum seeker subsequently travelled) in order to reach the UK, or when they arrived in the UK. Some asylum seekers may have been in the UK (or another country) for some time before claiming asylum. An individual with a particular nationality may not have actually been in that country for a significant length of time prior to claiming asylum. The UK is already a leading resettlement state, offering a number of safe and legal pathways for refugees. In the year ending June 2016, a total of 3,439 people were resettled in the UK.</p><p>In addition to the 20,000 Syrian refugees and up to 3,000 vulnerable persons from the Middle East and North Africa region that the Government has committed to resettle by 2020, the UK has also committed to relocate unaccompanied refugee children from France, Greece and Italy. Under the family reunion policy we have reunited around 22,000 refugees with their immediate family over the past five years and will continue to do so. The Government supports the principle that those who need international protection should claim asylum in the first safe country they reach. This allows vulnerable persons to receive help quickly rather than risking their lives on hazardous journeys into and across Europe or falling victim to criminal gangs who are exploiting the situation. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/09/2018 answer text <p>The UK has decided, as a matter of domestic policy, that the main requirement for eligibility under the EU Settlement Scheme will be continuous residence in the UK.</p><p>We will accept a wide range of documentation as proof of residence. Where possible, the application process will help the applicant to establish their continuous residence and whether it amounts to five years, on an automated basis using data held by HM Revenue &amp; Customs (HMRC) and in due course also the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The latter may include data on receipt of state retirement pension.</p><p>Being in receipt of a state retirement pension may help the applicant to prove their residency, but receipt of public funds in any form will not affect the applicant’s eligibility for the EU Settlement Scheme.</p><p>The requirement for five years’ continuous residence can be satisfied by any such period of time during an applicant’s life in the UK rather than the most recent five years, provided it began before 31 December 2020. However, the applicant must not have been absent from the UK for more than five continuous years since that period ended.</p><p>EU citizens and their family members who obtain settled status will be granted indefinite leave to remain (ILR) in the UK.
