star this property answer text <p>DFID provides significant support to protect children from violence around the world in both development and humanitarian contexts. Funding is delivered directly through child protection programming, as well as through wider education, nutrition, health, economic development and social protection programming. Current examples of support include providing £5 million to the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children that is driving international progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 16.2 and on which the Secretary of State is a board member, £26 million to a Regional Programme in Asia targeting the worst forms of child labour and £29.7 million to Education Cannot Wait, a global fund for education in emergencies which has protection at its centre.</p><p> </p><p>There are currently no codes or markers within the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) database that allow for the systematic identification and tracking of all spending on protecting children from violence. World Vision International is currently working with DFID, alongside other development partners, civil society and the DAC to explore whether a new process for identifying donor spend on violence against children can be agreed.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) estimate that up to three million people have been displaced since the conflict began in Yemen in 2015.</p><p> </p><p>IOM reports that over 455,040 people were displaced from and within Hodeidah governorate between 1 June and 23 October 2018, and that over 80,000 people have been displaced from and within Hajjah governorate since 1 June 2018.</p><p> </p><p>Last year the UK provided protection assistance, including primary health services, legal assistance and support in response to sexual violence, to over 200,000 vulnerable people through IOM and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK is proud of our role in the Global Coalition’s fight against Daesh. DFID is also at the forefront of the humanitarian response in the region, working to address humanitarian needs in the region, and to ensure that all vulnerable people, including those affected by Daesh in Syria and Iraq receive help.</p><p>In Northeast Syria, including areas previously occupied by Daesh, we provide support to address individual’s basic needs, including restocking health facilities with medicines and equipment, non-food items, and water and sanitation support. Additionally, we have provided funding and announced new support to help clear landmines and explosives which will ensure humanitarian agencies can reach those in need.</p><p>In formerly-Daesh controlled territories in Iraq, the UK provides redevelopment support and funds community cohesion projects to help kick-start local economies and create the appropriate conditions for sustainable population return.</p><p>In areas formerly controlled by Daesh in Syria and Iraq, we are also providing education and psychosocial support services, aimed at children affected by trauma.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The UK has been at the forefront of the humanitarian response in Yemen and focusses on addressing the critical needs of people inside the country, including those who have been internally displaced by the conflict. In April this year, the UK announced £170 million in response to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen for this Financial Year.</p><p> </p><p>There are far fewer Yemenis displaced across borders than other situations in the world due to geography and poverty. There is for example a refugee settlement in Djibouti of around 2,000 people - a number which has remained stable in recent years.</p><p> </p><p>The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) estimate that up to three million people have been internally displaced since the conflict began in Yemen in 2015, with over 450,000 displaced from and within Hodeidah governorate between 1 June and 23 October 2018.</p><p> </p><p>The UK is providing £36m to IOM and UNHCR to help over 21,000 displaced people buy vital food through cash transfers, and enabling access to clean water, primary health care and support in response to sexual violence. Furthermore, in July this year DFID flew in 3,000 tents as well as thousands more blankets, solar lanterns, and kitchen sets into Aden to help with emergency needs in Hodeidah governorate.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The UK takes the threat of Ebola to global health security very seriously. The Secretary of State has engaged regularly with the Director General of the World Health Organisation about the current outbreak in DRC and how the UK can provide support to the response. The current response is building on previous UK investments on preparedness and health systems; the experimental vaccine used in DRC was developed with UK support after the West Africa outbreak in 2014-15.</p><p>More broadly DFID is investing £40million over four years through the Tackling Deadly Diseases in Africa Programme (TDDAP) to support preparedness, detection and response work for diseases including Ebola in the countries most at risk. Our ongoing work to support WHO reform is paying dividends in the current response.</p> more like this

Around 128,000 internally displaced people remain in crowded camps in central Rakhine since 2012. Although an estimated 250,000-300,000 Rohingya remain in northern Rakhine it is unclear how many are displaced due to lack of humanitarian access. Numbers are not available for Rohingya who have fled to neighbouring countries since August 2017.</p> more like this

This is a defining development challenge for DFID’s partner countries and is at the heart of building global prosperity and stability that is in the UK’s national interest.</p><p> </p><p>DFID’s 2017 Economic Development Strategy expressly commits us to deliver more and better jobs – seeking to progressively improve job quality and raise standards as countries develop. As developing countries generate better quality jobs, opportunities increase for UK trade and investment that further contribute to poverty reduction and mutual prosperity.</p><p> </p><p>The Department is currently working to improve how it monitors and measures its jobs impacts – including through partnerships with the World Bank and the Office of National Statistics to capture job quality and key elements of decent work.</p> more like this
