In order to deliver long term change we need to address the negative attitudes expectations and behaviours relating to women and girls; both integrating across programmes and standalone projects. DFID is the only international development donor with a dedicated Violence Against Women and Girls Team working to embed best practice, including on shifting social norms to tackle violence against women and girls, across UK Aid programmes. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/12/2016 answer text <p>According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees there are over 4.8 million registered Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries. Of this total figure, Turkey hosts over 2.7 million; Lebanon 1 million; Jordan more than 655,000; Iraq over 228,000; Egypt over 115,000; and 29,000 Syrian refugees are in North Africa. A further 1.1 million applications for asylum have been made by Syrians throughout Europe, with the majority in Germany and Serbia.</p><p>The UK is at the forefront of the response to the crisis and our support is reaching hundreds of thousands of people affected by it across the region and inside Syria. To help address this, DFID implementing partners have supported repairs to water networks and generators and provided water purification tablets and jerry cans.
