	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/07/2019 answer text <p><strong> </strong></p><p>The Government maintains that leaving the European Union with a deal is the best EU Exit outcome and has strongly expressed its opposition to leaving without a deal, in line with the position consistently expressed by Parliament. However, leaving without a deal on 31 October 2019 remains the legal default at the end of the Article 50 extension period if no withdrawal agreement is agreed. Therefore, as a responsible Government, we will continue to prepare to minimise any disruption to the supply of medicines and medical products in a ‘no deal’ scenario.</p><p> </p><p>The Department continues to work closely with the devolved administrations, relevant EU member states, industry trade bodies and suppliers, the National Health Service and our other main stakeholders to ensure that we are prepared for leaving the EU without a deal in October.</p><p> </p><p>On 26 June, we wrote to suppliers of medicines to the United Kingdom from or via the EU or European Economic Area setting out our continuing multi-layered approach to ensure the continuity of supply of all medicines and medical products in a potential no-deal exit scenario on 31 October.</p><p> </p><p>To ensure sufficient space to store stockpiled medicines, we agreed contracts for additional warehouse space, including ambient, refrigerated and controlled drug storage aligned to the possible 29 March EU exit date. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/07/2019 answer text <p>Health Education England (HEE)’s technology enhanced learning (TEL) Programme has developed a national framework for the delivery of simulation-based education. This framework is now in place and being applied across the country.</p><p>Part of this work has involved extensive stakeholder engagement and through this engagement, a number of examples of where virtual reality has successfully been used to support learning have emerged. In particular, HEE East of England is piloting facilitated virtual reality learning for 1,200 Foundation Programme trainee doctors in 20 critical emergency scenarios in the East of England. This enables real time practice in a safe simulated environment with both facilitated supervised training and also personal unlimited access. A careful evaluation will be carried out, looking at both the trainee experience of learning through virtual reality and their subsequent improvement in confidence in urgent care management.</p><p>In addition, the TEL Programme has supported the development of a virtual reality lab in Torbay, which is now in its second year. Successful examples of virtual reality in distraction therapy have emerged, particularly in paediatrics and podiatry, with clear benefits to patients undergoing the clinical intervention and costs savings because of the reduction in general anaesthetics.</p><p>The TEL Programme has now set up an academic partnership with Leeds Institute and through this partnership, will be developing a set of principles for the use of virtual reality in education and training. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/09/2019 answer text <p>The Government has committed to an extra 1,500 undergraduate medical school places - a 25% increase taking the total number of medical school training places in England to 7,500. The first 630 places were taken up in September 2018 with a further 690 places available in September 2019. The remaining additional 180 places will have been made available by universities by 2020/21. By 2020, five new medical schools will have opened in England to help deliver the expansion.</p><p>Following graduation from medical school, eligible applicants are allocated a place on the United Kingdom Foundation Programme.</p><p>The number of medical specialty training places that are available each year is set by Health Education England and based on their assessment of service gaps and predicted workforce needs.</p><p>The NHS Long Term Plan set out the need to ensure a sustainable overall balance between supply and demand across all staff groups. For doctors, it also focussed on reducing geographical and specialty imbalances. Subsequently, the interim NHS People Plan set out the action we will take now and over the long term to meet the challenges of supply, reform, culture and leadership, and changes in demand for health care. The strategy will set out a clear vision for maintaining and developing England’s world-leading immunisation programme over the next 10 years and beyond.</p><p>Actions planned or underway to increase the uptake of childhood vaccination include:</p><p>- Strengthening the role of local immunisation coordinators – healthcare professionals that promote vaccine uptake, particularly in under-served groups, by supporting areas with low uptake and tailoring specific local interventions to under-vaccinated communities;</p><p>- Holding a summit with social media companies to agree actions they can take to tackle the proliferation of anti-vaccine messaging on their sites;</p><p>- Updating the National Health Service website to ensure availability of NHS-approved, evidence-based and trusted advice on vaccines; and</p><p>- A review of general practice vaccinations and immunisation standards, funding, and procurement to incentivise improved immunisation coverage.</p><p>Vaccine uptake remains high, but rates must improve to fully protect the public. These arrangements would safeguard healthcare for the hundreds of thousands of UK-insured persons who live in Europe.</p><p>I laid a Written Ministerial Statement (HLWS1795) on 26 September 2019, setting out the Department’s progress on ‘no deal’ reciprocal healthcare arrangements, and updated information has been published online on the situation for each Member State, including what arrangements have been put in place. Screening in the United Kingdom is undertaken through informed consent.</p><p> </p><p>There are 11 national screening programmes that are recommended by the UK National Screening Committee, which cover 37 conditions across adults and babies (antenatal and neonatal). Approximately 11 million people are invited to participate in screening programmes each year.</p><p> </p><p>There is also the NHS Health Check service which is a health check-up for adults in England aged 40-74 every five years. It is designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia. The Government’s recent Green Paper <em>Advancing our health: prevention in the 2020s</em> announced the intention to undertake a review of the NHS Health Checks programme to maximise the benefits it delivers in the next decade.</p><p> </p><p>Professor Richards’ review of National Adult Screening programmes was published on 16 October and as part of this review it explored the future of screening.
