answer text The Saxon is a lightly armoured personnel carrier (APC). The information we have received from the Ukraine Ministry of Defence states that the APCs will be used by two battalions operating in the Anti-Terrorist Operation area (ATO), and by airmobile units for reconnaissance and general patrolling. We are aware that the Ukrainians are also considering converting some of the APCs for use as “Medevac vehicles.” more like this

answer text The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) sets the framework for States to pursue peaceful nuclear technology with appropriate safeguards to prevent that technology being used to develop nuclear weapons. Saudi Arabia is a member of the NPT, and we expect them to continue to remain in compliance with their Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as they develop their civil nuclear programme. We also continue to encourage Saudi Arabia to join the many non-nuclear weapon States that have given the IAEA additional information about their nuclear activities, and expanded access to check it, by signing an Additional Protocol to their Safeguards Agreement. more like this

answer text The EU already has a range of capabilities to build and promote security, which can be complementary to those of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). The UK is working to make these more effective and to improve NATO/EU co-operation. But the Government has consistently made clear that we will oppose any measures which would undermine Member States' competence for their own military forces or lead to competition and duplication with NATO. Complementarity with NATO is a principle that was reinforced by the European Councils on defence in June 2015 and December 2013. more like this

answer text The British Government supports freedom of expression and of the media. We do not support censorship of broadcasters, Russian or otherwise. The informal discussion paper, which we and other EU partners have supported, does not advocate media censorship, but proposes a coordinated response to Russian disinformation. The paper makes clear that rules designed to promote objective broadcast media reporting and transparency of interests, and to prevent incitement of hatred or propagation of violence and war, with due respect to freedom of expression must be observed, and complaints investigated by regulators. more like this

We engage all parts of the UN system to ensure that the UK’s policies are clearly explained and understood. more like this

answer text Poverty is complex and affects different people in different ways throughout their lives. As such, the Government does not have one recognised definition, or measure, of poverty which applies to everyone’s stage of someone’s life. Our focus is on ensuring we have measures which drive the right approaches to tackling the root causes of poverty. more like this

answer text Israel does have a facility-specific safeguards agreement in place with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), namely “The Agreement between the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Government of Israel and the Government of the United States of America for the Application of Safeguards” (commonly referred to as an INFCIRC 66-type agreement). The agreement applies to a single facility in Israel, which is the Soreq Nuclear Research Reactor. The facility is inspected by the IAEA to ensure that it is not used for weapons purposes. We continue to call on Israel to upgrade this arrangement to a full scope Comprehensive Safeguards agreement with the IAEA. more like this
