<p>In both Syria and Iraq the UK is providing financial support to specialist organisations to collect data which will enable them to document and present evidence to international standards and help build criminal case files. This is necessary should a referral to the International Criminal Court be forthcoming on Syria, or should individuals be subject to litigation by hybrid, specialised or national courts. It is vital to do this now, before evidence is lost or destroyed.</p>
