answer text
All three occupational police pension schemes provide valuable benefits for survivors on the death of the member. The 2006 and 2015 scheme benefits are broadly the same. The main differences between these schemes and the 1987 scheme are: benefits paid for life, rather than ceasing on remarriage or cohabitation; benefits for partners as well as spouses and civil partners; and lower survivor benefits as a proportion of the pension payable to the member.

The Home Office does not hold information on the number of survivors’ pensions surrendered on remarriage or cohabitation. Detailed information on the police pension scheme is held by each Police Pension Authority.

We have estimated with the Government’s Actuary’s Department, by using historical actuarial data, that the total cost of retaining benefits for all police survivors would increase the police scheme liabilities by around £144m. Reinstatement of pensions already surrendered, would increase the police scheme liabilities to around £198m. No annual estimate is available.

As at 31 March 2016 there were 82,268 serving police officers who were active members of the 1987 police pension scheme, including those who had moved to the 2015 scheme for future pension accrual. The average survivor’s pension as at 31 March 2016 was £9,450 a year – while this is not exclusively attributable to the 1987 police pension scheme, most pensions in payment in 2016 will be in respect of that scheme.

answer text
The previous Government created a ground-breaking new offence of controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship, which came into force in December 2015, to recognise the patterns of manipulation and control that characterise domestic abuse. Since then we have seen 294 successful convictions and the number of prosecutions increased threefold in 2017. However, we recognise that there is further work to do to raise awareness, improve understanding of the offence and increase the number of prosecutions.

As part of the Government’s domestic abuse consultation last year, we asked whether further action should be taken to strengthen the offence.

In our response to the consultation we agreed that we will update the statutory guidance and Crown Prosecution Service legal guidance on the offence. We will also improve understanding of the offence throughout the justice system, and work to dispel stereotypes by promoting the updated statutory guidance for the offence through the courts and justice system. This will help to increase the number of cases that are brought, charged and successfully
prosecuted under this offence.

The Home Secretary chairs a national oversight group that is driving a culture change in the police response by ensuring that the recommendations from the Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) reviews into domestic abuse are acted upon. This includes improving police understanding of coercive control

Police training and guidance is the responsibility of the College of Policing and the College has produced a training programme, called ‘Domestic Abuse Matters’ developed by the charity SafeLives, which focuses on improved evidence gathering and understanding of controlling and coercive behaviour. We will invest in further police training on coercive control to extend the rollout of the Domestic Abuse Matters police change programme.

answer text
The UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) customer contact centres are in place to support customers seeking advice about making a visa related application and the options available to them based on their circumstance including navigating GOV.UK, guidance and immigration rules.
The customer contact centres can also help customers to get an update on their application if this is outside of the published service standards.

We constantly review the service delivery and our quality levels to ensure we are providing the right level of customer service and support to our customers.

The customer contact centres services delivered by Sitel UK LTD is one of a number of information channels available to applicants. For example, customers have access to the our Gov.uk website to access all relevant information at no cost.

From within the UK there is no charge for contacting UKVI by e-mail, whilst phone calls are charged at the caller’s standard network rate. Customers and agents who contact UKVI from outside the UK will be charged their standard network rate plus £1.37 per minute. A customer is only charged at the £1.37 per minute rate once they connect to an agent. We do not hold data on how a call was made (via Landline or Mobile)

The table(s) below shows the calls received by the Croydon Contact Centre (CCC); these are calls from Asylum support customers, DNA hotline and sponsors / educational establishments. All other customer calls are handled by Sitel and HGS; these figures are not available as they are commercially sensitive. Also outlined below is the average call length:

Average Call Length

CCC

SiTel

HGS

Overall With HGS

Overall Without HGS

2018

03:47

04:21

N/A

04:19

04:19

2017

03:36

04:19

04:09

04:11

04:12

2016

04:05

03:32

04:17

03:51

03:41

Calls Received/Demand

CCC

SiTel

HGS

2018

74094

2017

224273

2016

416541

The UK government believes it is right that those who use and benefit directly from the UK immigration system make an appropriate contribution towards meeting the costs.

Those who use the services from outside the UK are predominantly prospective customers and in many cases no application will be made and no application fee collected

Customers who use the services from within the UK will often already have an immigration status with UKVI and have already paid an immigration fee.
For applications made within the UK there is no charge for contacting us by e-mail, whilst phone calls are charged at the caller’s standard network rate

There are currently no plans to change the pricing structure for the current contact centre services.
