star this property answer text <p>The Government does not support the creation of parliamentary constituencies for overseas electors. The current and proposed overseas voting arrangements are based on the principle that overseas electors continue to have some form of connection to the area of the country where they were last resident. This is the approach taken generally in other democracies with overseas voting.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The creation of overseas constituencies would also require changes to the way that electoral administration (the registration of voters and the conduct of polls) is organised in Great Britain, where responsibility lies at the local authority level. It would clearly not be appropriate for the Government to carry out these functions for overseas constituencies.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The appointment of the former Government Chief Scientific Adviser Sir Mark Walport as designate<br>Chief Executive of UK Research &amp; Innovation was announced in February 2017. An external<br>competition to appoint his successor was launched in the same month and was overseen by the<br>First Civil Service Commissioner</p><p>The competition has concluded and the Cabinet Office is finalising the appointment details with the<br>successful candidate before an announcement can be made. The Cabinet Secretary will be in a<br>position to announce details of the appointment shortly. In the meantime, Professor Chris Whitty<br>has taken on the role of interim Government Chief Scientific Advisor.</p> more like this
