star this property answer text <p>The Government does not intend to reintroduce defined Public Library Service Standards (PLSS), which were were withdrawn along with other government imposed performance targets in a move towards increased local autonomy.</p><p> </p><p>In September 2017, the Libraries Taskforce made available a new sector-led benchmarking framework for library services in England, developed with the Local Government Association, to enable library services to self-assess, develop and improve.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Local authorities in England have a statutory duty under the Public Libraries and Museums Act 1964 to provide a comprehensive and efficient library service. It is therefore for each local authority to determine how best to provide a public library service that meets local needs and within available resources.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport monitors developments relating to proposed changes to library services in England. The Government is working with the Libraries Taskforce to promote good practice and innovation to assist library services and enable them to be sustainable for the long term.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The independent Mendoza Review, commissioned by the government and published on 14th November, shows that 28% of Arts Council England-Accredited museums are operated by local authorities and that they and other museums receive over £200m per year from local government. DCMS does not collect data on professional expertise in the museums sector but the Mendoza Review identifies the need for museums employees to diversify their skills to adapt to today’s funding environment.</p> more like this
