	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/11/2017 answer text <p>Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, it is already against the law to keep primates in the same sort of environment you would keep a domesticated pet animal. In addition, the statutory Code of Practice for the Welfare of Privately Kept Non-human Primates provides keepers with advice on how to meet the welfare needs of their animals, as required under the 2006 Act.</p><p> </p><p>Defra is working closely with the Pet Advertising Advisory Group to apply minimum standards to online pet advertising on five of the main websites. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/03/2018 answer text <p>There are no recorded prosecutions or convictions for such an offence up to and including 31 December 2016, the latest year for which statistics are available. However, at least two people were fined last year for failing to ensure that their dog was properly microchipped and their details kept up to date. The offence of failing to microchip a dog is a “non-notifiable” offence and so there is no centrally held data on arrests or charges. As announced on 30 September, a bill to effect this increase in the maximum penalty for animal cruelty will be published for consultation around the turn of the year. The theft of a pet dog is already a criminal offence punishable by a maximum penalty of 7 years’ imprisonment.</p><p> </p><p>In order to make a direct link between a dog and its owner, to deter such thefts in the first place, and to increase the chances of an owner being re-united with their dog, it is a requirement that all dogs be identified by a microchip. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/09/2017 answer text <p>We take the issue of illegal trafficking of puppies very seriously.</p><p> </p><p>Responsibility for stopping the illegal movement of puppies begins in the country where they are born. When cases of illegal puppy movements under the Pet Travel Scheme are discovered, the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) working with Defra will raise instances of abuse of the scheme with the authorities in the relevant countries.</p><p> </p><p>Defra’s Chief Veterinary Officer has written to EU countries to raise concerns over illegal smuggling of puppies and animals and APHA has worked in partnership with the Dogs Trust at Dover where approx. 600 puppies have been seized and taken into quarantine since the initiative began.</p><p> </p><p>Defra also works closely with the Pet Advertising Advisory Group to drive up standards for online advertisements and make potential pet owners and website operators more aware of rogue dealers to reduce demand.</p><p> </p><p> </p> answering member constituency Camborne and Redruth answering member printed George Eustice grouped question UIN 9107 question first answered 15/09/2017 14:44:30 answering member 3934 label Biography information for George Eustice
