Having somewhere stable to live acts as a platform for offenders to be able to access the services and support needed to stop their cycle of offending for good.</p><p>There was a total of 28,555 prisoners who declared they were of No Fixed Abode prior to their imprisonment in the last quarter of 2018. This information is provided by offenders during their reception into custody, and forms part of the Basic Custody Screening Tool.</p><p>The Government published its Rough Sleeping Strategy in August 2018, launching a £100 million initiative to reduce and ultimately eliminate rough sleeping across England. As part of this strategy, MoJ and Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), will invest approximately £6.4 million over two years in a pilot scheme to help ex-offenders secure suitable accommodation from three prisons, namely HMPs Pentonville, Bristol and Leeds. PAVA training is incorporated into Use of Force training, which is mandatory of all prison officers and as such it is not possible to isolate specific training costs.</p><p> </p><p>We are committed to the rollout of PAVA to support our hardworking prison officers to do their jobs. PAVA is just one part of our approach to improve prison safety. PAVA spray is explicitly for the protection of staff, the protection of those in our care or to facilitate the safe withdrawal of staff. That report must then be followed up with a written report within 24 hours (or, at weekends, by the following Monday). In the case of a deceased prisoner, the prison must also report the death to the Prisons &amp; Probation Ombudsman in writing, within 24 hours. It monitors prison and probation services across England and Wales, with 29 specialist staff split into one national and five regional teams. The new unit will help protect prison and probation staff raising awareness amongst staff of the threat from corruption, encouraging staff to report any suspicions of wrongdoing and working closely with the police to pursue cases of suspected corruption.
