	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/12/2016 answer text <p>The Cabinet Office is committed to helping its employees experiencing mental health problems and has a range of support services in place.</p><p>The Cabinet Office has signed up to the Time to Change pledge on mental health and our Employee Assistance Programme provides online support, counselling and a 24/7 telephone service.</p><p>Our Occupational Health Service helps line managers support employees with their mental health. The Department has also established a Listening Service, a confidential helpline resourced by staff who have been trained in active listening and emotional support.</p><p>The Department provides access to training for example in mindfulness and resilience. Cabinet Office staff are also supported by the central well-being service and staff networks (such as the WorkWell group and disability network), and the Department takes part in awareness campaigns.</p><p>The Cabinet Office provides a central well-being service to other departments including:</p><ul><li>supporting the Civil Service Health and Well-being and Disability Champions to meet the ambitions in the Talent Action Plan and the Work, Health and Disability Green Paper;</li><li>providing policy and manager guidance to support the return to work of those with a mental health illness;</li><li>central messaging in support of events such as World Mental Health Day;</li><li>raising capability through Civil Service Learning training materials;</li><li>supporting individuals with mental health-related workplace adjustments;</li><li>equipping caseworkers to deal with complex mental health issues; and</li><li>sharing and developing best practice.</li></ul><p> </p> answering member constituency Ipswich answering member printed Ben Gummer question first answered 20/12/2016 09:07:28 answering member 3988 label Biography information for Ben Gummer

The guidance sets out how National Health Service acute, mental health and community trusts should review, investigate and learn from the deaths of patients in their care, and gives particular emphasis to the deaths of individuals who had a learning disability or mental illness.</p><p> </p><p>To supplement the national guidance, on 22 November 2018 the Royal College of Psychiatrists published guidance specifically for mental health trusts to ensure that opportunities are not missed when reviewing the deaths of patients who had a severe mental illness. The guidance, including a mortality review tool, was commissioned by NHS England and is a key output of the Government’s national Learning from Deaths programme. The plan includes a section on support for people with mental health problems, and to help people to manage staff with mental health problems.</p><p> </p><p>Support provided includes mental health awareness training and an employee assistance service which staff can call at any time to obtain confidential support and advice.</p><p> </p><p>In September 2014, the Permanent Secretary signed the Time to Change pledge to affirm the Department’s commitment to ending stigma about mental health. The Department also has an active Wellbeing network, with over 100 members, which has promoted events to raise awareness of mental health issues.</p><p> </p><p>In early 2017, mental health first aiders will be available in each of the Department’s buildings and will receive training to help them recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems and offer appropriate support. As the APMS data was identified as containing particularly sensitive data, additional technical disclosure control measures were considered necessary by the NHS Digital Disclosure Control Panel to minimise the risk of re-identification.
