star this property answer text <p>For children and young people, the standard is 95% of children with an eating disorder will receive treatment within one week for urgent cases and within four weeks for routine cases. This standard contains information on the number of children and young people who have accessed or are waiting for treatment following a routine or urgent referral for a suspected eating disorder, which is available at the following link:</p><p><a href="https://www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/cyped-waiting-times/" target="_blank">https://www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/cyped-waiting-times/</a> <br></p><p>For adults, a four-week waiting time standard for adult community mental health services, including eating disorder services, has been piloted and evaluated. NHS England and NHS Improvement launched a public consultation on the standards, which concluded on 1 September 2021. NHS England and NHS Improvement will analyse the consultation responses to inform a recommendation on whether and how to implement any new standards in due course.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The Department does not hold the information requested on the number of full-time equivalent staff employed to deliver eating disorder services.</p><p>The NHS Long Term Plan sets out an ambition to improve adult eating disorder provision. From 2018/19, all clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) have received uplifts in their baseline funding to expand their community mental health services, including adult eating disorders services. From April 2021, in addition to baseline funding increases, all CCGs will receive their share of £121 million to transform their community mental health services, including eating disorders in line with published guidance.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The NHS People Plan delivery programme is helping National Health Service employers to value and retain their staff, including psychiatrists, nurses and psychologists working in eating disorder services, by making their organisations a better place to work and being a modern and model employer. <br> <br> Priorities include investing in staff health and wellbeing, tackling workplace discrimination and promoting a more compassionate and inclusive workplace culture. This is aligned with work to increase the NHS workforce, reduce vacancies and release the pressure on existing staff. We are on track to recruit 50,000 more nurses and have record numbers of people currently in training to become doctors and nurses.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>On 5 March 2021, we announced that that £79 million of extra funding will be used to significantly expand children’s mental health services. This additional funding will allow 2,000 more children and young people to access eating disorder services. In addition, on 27 March 2021, we announced that £58 million of this funding will be allocated to accelerate the adult community support to bring forward the expansion of integrated primary and secondary care for adults with severe mental illness, including eating disorders.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government is aware of the importance of early intervention when treating people with an eating disorder and we recognise that the earlier treatment is provided, the greater the chance of recovery.</p><p>The Government set up the first ever waiting time standards to improve access to eating disorder services for children and young people, supported by £30 million a year to develop 70 new or extended community eating disorder services across the country. These have improved access to effective eating disorder treatment in the community, with the number of children and young people accessing treatment increasing from 5,243 in 2016/17 to 6,867 in 2017/18.</p><p>NHS England is on track to deliver the waiting time standard for children and young people by 2020/21 and as need continues to rise, extra investment will allow us to maintain delivery of the standard beyond 2020/21.</p><p>The NHS Long Term Plan has committed to test four-week waiting times for adult and older adult community mental health teams, with selected local areas that will include eating disorders. This will form part of the overall testing of new models of primary and community mental health care in 2019/20 and 2020/21.</p><p> </p><p> </p>
