star this property answer text <p>The Government wants markets to thrive and continues to promote competition as the best driver of value and service for customers.</p><p> </p><p>a) The Government and Ofgem are working to implement the Competition and Markets Authority’s recommendations in the retail energy market through faster and more reliable switching, measures to increase consumer engagement reforming the regulatory framework which aim to increase competition in the energy market.</p><p> </p><p>b) The Government has established competition objectives embedded in the Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA). The regulators set up the New Bank Start-up Unit to help prospective new banks enter the market and through the early days of authorisation. Since 2013, the PRA has authorised 15 new UK banks, reducing the market share of the four biggest banks and increasing the stability of the sector.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills published an assessment of Consumer Detriment in 2014. The Government works with key stakeholders in the consumer landscape through the Consumer Protection Partnership<sup><sup>[1]</sup></sup> to better identify, prioritise and coordinate collective action to tackle the issues causing greatest harm to consumers.</p><p>Individual partners have produced assessments of consumer detriment such as the “Consumer Detriment” report published by Citizens Advice in September 2016.</p><p>The Government is committed to tackling consumer detriment and will be publishing a consumer green paper.</p><p> </p><p>[1] Members of the CPP are as follows: National Trading Standards (NTS), Citizens Advice, Citizens Advice Scotland, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA), the Department for the Economy in Northern Ireland (DfE), the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI), the Consumer Council for Northern Ireland (CCNI), and the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA).</p><p> </p><p> </p>

star this property answer text <p>The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) was created on 14 July 2016. The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) were merged to create this new department.</p><p>The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy does not currently have the facility for staff to join a credit union through payroll deductions.</p><p>Some Government departments offer this facility and it is currently being looked into by the central civil service HR team. Once a decision has been made, BEIS will consider these recommendations as part of its ongoing work to ensure staff are offered a benefits package that is current and reflective of the wider Civil Service.</p> more like this

The economic context has changed since 2011 when the first round of the Regional Growth Fund (RGF) was launched. The economy has recovered significantly and the employment rate has now reached record levels. The RGF is already achieving its task to deliver jobs and sustainable private sector led growth to areas previously dependent on the public sector.</p> more like this
