star this property answer text <p>The Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme commenced on 6th January and will provide up to 20,000 women, children and others at risk with a safe and legal route to resettle in the UK.</p><p>From Spring, we are working with the UNHCR to receive referrals of vulnerable refugees in need of protection through the ACRS.</p><p>UNHCR refer refugees who, by definition, are outside their country of origin.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Families in the UK with relatives in Afghanistan can access information to assess their relative’s eligibility for the following resettlement schemes on gov.uk:</p><ul><li><a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/afghan-citizens-resettlement-scheme" target="_blank">Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme</a></li><li><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/afghan-relocations-and-assistance-policy/afghan-relocations-and-assistance-policy-information-and-guidance" target="_blank">Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy</a></li><li><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/family-reunion-instruction" target="_blank">Refugee Family Reunion</a></li></ul><p>From Spring, the UNHCR will refer refugees to the ACRS, based on assessments of protection of need. The Government will also offer ACRS places to the most at risk British Council and Gardaworld contractors and Chevening alumni. We are committed to working in step with the international community and continue to do all we can to enable those who are eligible to relocate to the UK.</p><p>The Minister for the Armed Forces recently visited the region, to identify what more we can do for applicants both in Afghanistan and in neighbouring countries. We are working with a wide range of allies and partners and are exploring every avenue to help them reach safety.</p><p>The UK Government will work with international partners to put pressure on the Taliban to allow those with a right to leave Afghanistan to do so safely.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 (2016 Act) bans the sale, supply, production and distribution of psychoactive substances, such as nitrous oxide, for human consumption</p><p>The Crown Prosecution Service continues to prosecute cases involving nitrous oxide under the 2016 Act successfully. The Government continue to work closely with the CPS, law enforcement and scientific experts to ensure that prosecutions of cases under the 2016 Act are supported by the best available evidence.</p><p>Since the 2016 Act came into force, over 300 retailers across the United Kingdom have either closed down or are no longer selling psychoactive substances and action by the National Crime Agency has resulted in the removal of psychoactive substances being sold by UK based websites. In 2016, there were 28 convictions in England and Wales and seven people jailed under the new powers. This rose to 152 convictions in 2017 with 62 people immediately sent to custody.</p> more like this

star this property answer text This quarter is the quietest for Self-Assessment (SA) queries. HMRC is piloting the temporary and time-limited closure of the SA helpline so that c.350 advisers can be moved to other work, including clearing post items, which experience heavier demand at this time of year.<p> </p><p>The SA helpline will reopen on 4 September, five months prior to the SA filing deadline of 31 January.</p><p> </p><p>Around two-thirds of all Self-Assessment calls can be resolved online by customers; piloting a seasonal Self-Assessment helpline is about positively encouraging people to use these services when they can.</p><p> </p><p>This will free up HMRC advisors to help those with more urgent queries or who cannot access digital services, and to work on correspondence.</p><p><strong> </strong></p> more like this
