	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/04/2019 answer text <p>Under the Compliance and Arrears strategy we are writing to clients with CSA debt above certain thresholds to ask if they want us to try to collect their arrears. These thresholds provide a reasonable cut off point to ensure that we do not pursue cases at disproportionate cost to the taxpayer. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/10/2016 answer text <p>We have at our disposal a range of strong enforcement powers, intended to ensure all parents fulfil their financial responsibilities towards their children. We use all of the powers available to us where it is appropriate to do so, and we are seeking to extend these where appropriate, for instance by deducting money from bank accounts held jointly by the paying parent.</p><p>We take into consideration a number of factors when deciding if and what type of enforcement action to take, including the welfare of any relevant children involved and the likelihood of collecting monies owed. Our response to the consultation was published in November 2013.</p><p> </p><p>We have monitored the effects of case closure and the new statutory child maintenance scheme and published a research report on case closure in December 2016. This is faster and more accurate than relying on the Child Support Agency (CSA) assessment method of self reported income. Variation is available where parents believe there are additional factors that should be taken in to account. The aim is that a liability, once created, stays in force for a year excepting significant income changes of 25% or more.
