<p>The ‘child protection system' can be taken to encompass a wide framework of referral,
assessment, investigation and care processes. Information is not held centrally on
the number of children subject to such processes who have entered the youth justice
system.</p><p> </p><p>Young people entering the youth justice system will receive
a full assessment of their needs by a youth justice practitioner, which will include
establishing their care status and history and evaluation of other factors affecting
their offending behaviour, in order to inform effective interventions.</p><p> </p>
