star this property answer text <p>HM Revenue and Customs’ (HMRC) more than 26,000 (FTE) strong enforcement and compliance workforce of risk and intelligence analysts, compliance officers and fraud investigators tackle the full range of compliance risks ranging from hidden economy to the wealthy. Last year, they collected and protected a record £26 billion from compliance activities, contributing towards the UK's highest-ever tax take of £518 billion.</p><p> </p><p>The most recent year for which tax gap figures are available is 2013/14. HMRC estimates that £4.4 billion of it relates to tax evasion.</p><p> </p><p>HMRC allocates resources in a flexible manner, so that it meets individual business needs.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has made additional resourcing of up to £10 million a year available for the creation of a new taskforce. Its purpose will be to swiftly obtain and analyse the Panama papers, and take rapid action where there is evidence of any wrongdoing and regulatory breaches. The taskforce will look beyond tax into all potential areas of financial crime and other regulatory breaches. When working on policy, including at fiscal events, Ministers are advised of the impact a decision has on protected groups and this is taken into account when a policy decision is made.</p><p> </p><p>However, the legislation does not prescribe how this information needs to be recorded and it is not a statutory requirement in England to prepare or publish information in a particular form, such as an equality impact assessment.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) have brought together their High Net Worth Unit and Affluent teams to form a single Wealthy team. This organisational change will ensure that HMRC deploy their specialist, highly skilled resource on those wealthy individuals that present the highest compliance risk.</p><p> </p><p>As at 31 March 2017, the team had approximately 1040 full time equivalent staff engaged in customer compliance activity. Their roles focus on promoting tax compliance and tackling non-compliance amongst the wealthy population, including, where evidence is found, investigating potential tax evasion. The team works closely with Counter Avoidance and Fraud Investigation Service to ensure HMRC effectively tackle avoidance and evasion within this customer segment. Customer compliance activity as a whole forms is the largest part of HMRC by staff numbers.</p> more like this
