unstar this property answer text <p>I regularly meet ministerial colleagues to discuss important issues of common interest. However, it is a fundamental and longstanding principle of our system of Government that the fact of whether the Law Officers have advised on a particular issue is, by convention, not disclosed outside Government, without their consent. The Convention provides the fullest guarantee that government business will be conducted at all times in light of thorough and candid legal advice in circumstances in which Ministers and Law Officers can be fully open with one another.</p><p>The Government is committed to tackling modern slavery in supply chains. On 26 March 2020, we became the first country to publish a Government Modern Slavery Statement setting out the steps we have taken to identify and prevent modern slavery in our own supply chains. From September 2021 onwards, Ministerial departments will publish their own annual statements setting out the steps they have taken in their priority risk areas.</p><p> </p><p>The Home Office is working with DHSC, NHS and external experts to develop tailored training and guidance for HMG buyers and suppliers on best practice approaches to preventing modern slavery in PPE supply chains.</p>

unstar this property answer text <p>A consultation on the Capacity Market exemption element of the Supercharger concluded on 29 June 2023 and a response will be issued soon. The Network Charging Compensation Scheme is subject to ongoing consultation through to 24 August 2023 and a Government response will follow.</p><p> </p><p>It continues to be our expectation that all the measures comprising the Supercharger package be rolled out sequentially between April 2024 and April 2025.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>As a member of the World Trade Organisation’s plurilateral Agreement on Government Procurement (GPA), the UK cannot set procurement targets for public projects or any measures which favour, or indirectly discriminate in favour of, UK products or suppliers.</p><p>However, we have worked with the sector to progress the recommendations of the Steel Procurement Taskforce, published on 22 February 2022, looking at how government and industry can work together to help the steel sector best position itself for success in public contracts. Most of the recommendations have been addressed through the updated Public Procurement Note (PPN), published in April 2023, which reflects changes to commercial best practice, commercial policy and business case appraisals while clarifying the scope of reporting requirements on steel origin data.</p> more like this

They facilitate the movement of 95% of all seaborne import and export tonnage, simultaneously aiding UK companies to achieve more sustainable, efficient and resilient supply chains, and driving coastal regeneration.</p><p> </p><p>We recognise and welcome existing investment flows into the sector. For example, Teesport’s deal to become home to the UK’s first green lithium refiner which will help enable a domestic supply chain for electric vehicles and sustainable energy storage. Investments like these will create new jobs across the country and increase supply chain resilience.</p><p> </p><p>As Government we are considering with industry and across departments how to enhance these important contributions through inward investment into new projects; with an emphasis on decarbonisation, and driving prosperity, in line with our commitments to Levelling Up, Freeports and Clean Growth.</p> more like this

This includes Lotus who make electric hypercars at their Hethel plant in Norfolk, and the London Electric Vehicle Company who produce Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles in Coventry. unstar this property answer text <p>As part of our efforts to see British companies succeed in the industry, the Government offered significant support to Britishvolt through the Automotive Transformation Fund (ATF). Full due diligence was completed before a final grant offer letter was awarded.</p><p>Funding was designed so that agreed milestones had to be achieved for the company to drawdown any funds.  These milestones were not met and therefore no ATF funds were paid to Britishvolt.</p><p>The Government want to ensure the UK remains one of the best locations in the world for automotive manufacturing as we transition to electric vehicles. That includes investing record sums in battery R&amp;D – such as the recent announcement of £211 million into the Faraday Battery Challenge, which will help deliver 100,000 jobs in battery gigafactories and the battery supply chain by 2040.</p> more like this
