star this property answer text <p>I issued a letter of correction on 9 May 2019 explaining that my reference to children moving out of poverty since 2010 should have been a reference to the number of children in workless households. There are now 665,000 fewer children in workless households compared with 2010. A copy of my letter has been placed in the Libraries of both Houses.</p> more like this

This measure is designed to assess how the number of children in low income families compares with 2010/11 after taking account of inflation.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is working in close coordination with the Department for Exiting the European Union. We are preparing for potential impacts Brexit may have on the corporate governance of UK-registered companies operating outside the UK, including through subsidiaries and other connected persons.</p><p>The UK’s Companies Act and related legislation provides a framework for corporate governance, accounting, audit and reporting which is seen as an example of best practice across the world. For example, the Strategic Reporting regulations 2013 led to the EU’s Non-Financial Reporting Directive of 2014.</p><p>This framework secures sound and transparent financial and non-financial reporting by companies and other corporate entities, reflecting their strategy and governance, in order to help create a positive investment environment in the UK.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to building an economy that works for everyone and credit unions play a key role in this by offering affordable, responsible credit to some communities.</p><p> </p><p>In response to the Government’s 2014 Call for Evidence on the future of credit unions, the Government committed to consider potential legislative changes in the previous Parliament that would help the sector grow and thrive.</p><p>However, it is important to consider any changes carefully to avoid unintended consequences, such as bringing smaller credit unions into regulation that might not be proportionate.</p><p>The Government remains committed to supporting the sector and will continue to work with interested stakeholders to achieve this. The government is also keen for the sector to look for further opportunities to grow within the existing regulatory framework by exploring opportunities for collaboration within the sector.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government recognises the importance of long-term investment capital for all businesses, including credit unions, in helping them to maximise their potential.</p><p> </p><p>The Government therefore supports any measures that help credit unions attract more long-term investment, helping them to boost their capital base and subsequently issue more loans.</p><p> </p><p>As was made clear in the response to the Government’s Call for Evidence on the future of credit unions in 2014, the Government does not intend to provide revenue support to credit unions. This approach has been tried in the past and risks offering support for unsustainable business models which will then struggle to survive, once the support is ended. The Government will only consider grant funding in relation to specific outcomes.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is supportive of increasing the level of long-term investment capital into credit unions and welcomes the role played by some private sector companies in providing this.</p><p> </p>
